How can I calculate which Swiss rail pass is most economical for my travel plans?

Take a look at the overview map of the passes you consider. This map shows where the pass is valid and what discounts are granted.

Then, find the regular costs for your travel plans. This way you can determine how much you will save with each pass, and what pass is most economical. Fill out your travel plans in the online timetable and click 'Search connection'. Choose one of the connections and click 'Fare/Buy'. Please pay close attention to what prices are being displayed. In many cases, the discounted price for pass holders will initially be displayed. For a valid comparison to rail pass prices, make sure that you're looking at the regular (full) price.

Mountain transportation companies often give a price overview at their own website. Many companies are listed at our link pages of Switzerland, the Bernese Oberland, Wallis and Graubünden.
