Swisscard 4 days or?

    Hello,

Four of us will be traveling together to Switzerland from July 6 to July 11. We arrive on the 6th of July at ZRH airport and plan on taking the train (regular ticket) to Luzern the same day. We’ll stay in Luzern for 2 nights, then go to Interlaken for 2 nights, then 1 night in Montreux (basically the Golden Pass route) and will then go to Geneva airport on the last day (with a regular ticket) to catch our flight.

I’m assuming that for such a trip it is best to take a 4-day Swiss (saver) pass? We will be traveling with my elderly parents who probably won’t be going on too many excursions — maybe just a boat trip on Lake Luzern and a few bus rides around Interlaken. Is it still worth getting a Swiss(saver) pass for them or just buying the tickets separately? From my calculations, the Swisspass is only worth it if you plan lots of excursions?

    Thanks.

    Michel

    Hi Michel,

Yes, a 4-day Swiss Saver Pass would be the best option in most cases. Your parents might be better off with a Swiss Half Fare Card which offers reduced traveling rather than free traveling. It’s valid for a month, so the regular tickets on the first and last day would be reduced too. Either way, you need to know exactly which trips (both transfers and day trips) you’ll be making and do the math for a definitive answer.

The advantage of a Swiss Pass is that you are very flexible: an extra boat trip would be free, and so is a trip up the Rigi near Luzern. Many museums are included as well. So you can easily adapt your plans to the weather without costs increasing a lot.

    I hope this helps!
