The best maps of Switzerland

Most maps that can be ordered here are made by the Swiss Federal Office of Topography. These maps are highly detailed and therefore very convenient to have at hand while hiking. Even though modern technology allows you to navigate with GPS (Global Positioning System), and signposts are usually helpful in finding your way, a good map is indispensable. It's better not to rely on batteries and other technology only when it comes to safety. The maps scaled 1:50,000 provide enough details for hiking, but scale 1:25,000 is available as well for even more details. As trails don't change frequently, the maps make a good investment: in many cases, you can easily use them for 10 or more years.
