Zurich-Bernese Oberland-Zurich: need a rail pass based on our plans?
A traveler is arriving in Zurich on July 11th and plans to take a bus to their hotel and then a train to Interlaken and Meiringen the next day. They’ll join a guided tour from July 13 to 19, ending in Murren, and wonder about digital fare options for buses as well as the value of travel passes for their itinerary.
- Consider purchasing point-to-point tickets for each segment of your journey since a rail pass may not save you money for your specific travel plans.
- For public transport in Zurich, pay for fares before boarding and check the Zurcher Verkehrsverbund for more fare details.
- Buses in Zurich do not typically support digital fare payments; ensure you have exact fare ready.

Hi. Two is us are arriving in Zurich July 11th and likely traveling by bus to hotel, then traveling from Zurich to Interlaken to Meiringen on July 12th by train. Then participating in a guided tour July 13 to 19th, ending in Murren. Then we head to interlaken for 2 nights with maybe a visit to Beatus Caves or kayak in Brienz. Then back to Zurich.
It doesn’t seem like any of the passes make sense for our trip that would save us any money.
Also, do busses have digital fare, where I could use my phone, rather than having exact bus fare.
thanks!
