Hi my wife and I are both 57 years old, live in Australia and have never traveled in Europe and also have very limited travel experience overseas. We are both relatively fit and enjoy walking for a few hours each day.

My thought are to purchase the First Class Swiss Travel Pass due to it being the easiest thing to use for eight days even though we will only be their for six nights after doing lots of online research online and becoming very confused regarding all the different passes available.

We will arrive in Zurich on Friday 28th August 2020 at around 18:30 hours on Finnair and my plan would be to stay one night in Zurich close to the train station/airport.

We will be spending a total of six nights in Switzerland so on Saturday 29th August 2020 we will catch a train early morning ( Happy for a slow scenic train) to Interlaken where my plan would be to stay somewhere like Grindelwald but I am open for suggestions.

When we arrive I would be keen to start exploring ASAP. Sunday 30th August 2020 I would be happy to go up to the areas to walk and see water falls and beautiful scenery etc.

Monday 31st August 2020 I would be looking at the cruises on Lake Thun and Brienz to explore the little towns and villages around the lake.

Tuesday 1st September 2020 (Wife’s Birthday) we would like to go up into the high country to the lookouts but I would be looking for suggestions as I don’t necessarily need to go to Jungfraujoch as I believe other mountain spots may be less commercialised but just as pretty. We are also looking to do the cable cars etc to just try and see as much beautiful scenery as possible.

Wednesday 2nd September 2020 we would like to do a scenic train ride like The Glacier Express but we don’t know if we can do this type of trip in one day as we would need to get back to our accommodation that night and do they do a return trip so could we start the trip at Interlaken and take it to a certain point before changing trains to get us back to our accommodation possibly in Grindelwald so any advice on what scenic train to take and if we have time to do it would be appreciated.

On Thursday 3rd September 2020 we will leave our accommodation in Switzerland and head to Venice so any advice on what train to take for this would also be appreciated keeping in mind we are happy to take a scenic or slow train towards Venice if this gives us time to see more beautiful scenery in Switzerland as we only need to arrive in Venice sometime on Thursday for our three night stay in Venice.

I will be guided by you thoughts and comments because the more I research the more I become confused. I even attended a travel show today to try and gain more information but this was disappointing with no new information available so I’m now asking for your help.

Please note that the itinerary I have listed is flexible except we arrive in Zurich on Friday 28th August 2022 and depart for Venice on Thursday 3rd September 2020.

I have researched all the passes including Half Price Card, Swiss Travel Pass, Day Pass, Point to Point and it just confuses me so much. Any advice will be greatly appreciated from a couple of Aussies who live Down Under. Regards Mike and Karen Day.
