    Dear all,

    happy new year 🙂

We are thinking of spontaneously taking the BEX tomorrow (03 Jan) starting early morning starting in Zurich.

As the whole BEX trip all the way to Tirano might be a bit long for a single day (+we need to be back by 1815 in Zurich)we were wondering whether it might make sense to only take the first section Chru-Pontresino and take a return train to Zurich.

    So my questions are:

    1) Is it worthwhile doing only the first part of the BEX?

    2) We are happy to save some money. My wife has a halb-tax, I don’t. We could also take the car to Chur or any other stop if this makes sense.

Looking forward to discussingthe best options with you 🙂

    Thanks for your help already

    Best

Hello Zuercher and Welcome to MySwissAlps

Do you have seat reservations for the BEX? They are mandatory.

If you want to save money skip the BEX and just take regular trains. No reservations possible. Use the SBB Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel and figure out how far you want to go in the available time.

Maybe go one way via Chur and return via Davos and Landquart for a bit of variety.

A Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass and bit.ly/2rkekat) may help if you can still buy at a good price. Price increases closer to travel time.

If you cannot get beyond Pontresina, there is no point booking a BEX, nor really going to Pontresina at all. Just take the normal Zurich – Chur train and change at Chur into a regular Chur – St Moritz express. Chur – Samedan – St Moritz is the Albula route which is Unesco listed.

Chur – St Moritz express trains depart every hour at xx.58 from Chur.

Here is the PDF which show connections from Zürich
