Hi, we are a group of 4 adults from Singapore going to Switzerland in September. We are only left with about 2 months and we have not booked any accomdation and our itinerary has not been fixed yet.

An overview of our itinerary is as follow:

Day 1: Arrive in Zurich in the afternoon. Will visit a few attractions in the old town area and travel to check-in to Lucerne for 3 nights

Day 2-3: Mount Rigi, Mount Titlis, Lake Lucerne, old town area

Day 4 to 5: Interlaken: Schynige Platte and other attractions.

Day 6: Day trip to Jungfraujoch

    Day 7: Day trip Grindelwald

    Day 8: Montreux

    Day 9 to 10: Zermatt

Day 11 to 15: Florence and Rome

Please advise if the above itinerary is workable.

We also have some questions which we appreciate if anyone can help to answer:

    1) For Day 4 to 7, what is the best area to stay at so that it is convenient for us to explore Interlaken and also Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald?

    2) Some of us are thinking of doing paragliding. Where is the best place to do this based on my above itinerary?

    3) Should we stay one night in Montreux or should it be a day trip from the place that we will be staying at for Qns 1?

    4) We notice that some accomodation require buses to access. Is it convenient for us to bring our luagges to board the bus?

    5) What is the best way to travel from Zermatt to Florence?

    6) We are thinking of buying the 8 days Swiss Travel Pass but we will be in Switzerland for 10 days. So does it means that we have to buy point to point tickets for the remaining 2 days?

    7) We are thinking of doing a halfday for either Mount Rigi or Mount Titlis, so that we can explore other places in Interlaken for the remaining halfday. Is Mount Rigi or Mount Titlis more suitable for a half day trip?

Hi Iceflamer, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Your plan should fulfill your wishes, congratulations for your preparations! I will address only some of your questions.

    1) Wengen for the landscape or quietness of a village without cars, or Grindelwald. Interlaken only if shopping is essential to you, and if you want to include a lake boat trip in your programme.

    2) According to official statistics, there have been, on average, 8 deaths per year among paragliders. My advice is: don’t!

    3) If you stay in Montreux you will have more time to discover the area.

    4) Not sure what you mean by “convenient”. It is possible, no extra cost, so, yes, convenient! Try to avoid huge suitcases, though…

    5) In this case, clearly by train. The trip takes slightly more than 6 hours. All other alternatives take more time, only travel by bus is slightly cheaper, but not much. http://www.rome2rio.com

I am not competent for your questions 6 and 7. Enjoy the trip!

    Hi Iceflamer

I generally agree with Snowman. Wengen and Grindelwald are forum favorites. However if you want to spend time in Interlaken as well as Grindelwald and Wengen you might consider Lauterbrunnen as it is centrally located between all 3. In reality all 4 towns are easily accessible to each other by train.

I think paragliding can be arranged in either Grindelwald or Interlaken and possibly Lauterbrunnen as well. Statistics can be tricky. I have no idea what the accident rate for tandem commercial paragliding is(which is what you would be doing)but I’m pretty sure it’s less than BASE jumping which was pretty common in Lauterbrunnen valley on weekends when I was last there. Now that’s scary! Mark

Hello Iceflamer and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re planning to come to Switzerland.

    2) In addition to the already received input of the other members, please see below links to support your itinerary:
http://www.paragliding-interlaken.ch/en, Interlaken is for sure a famous area for paragliding

    5) To figure out the best route from Zermatt to Florence use the timetable below. Make sure you read how it works, it’s an invaluable tool for planning:

Also make sure you look at:

    6) For the tickets to cover extra days during your stay you can look at either point-to-point tickets or a Saver Day Pass:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland
    http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass

    7) I assume you will be visiting Mount Rigi and/or Mount Titlis from Lucerne, not Interlaken, right?! I personally would say Mount Rigi might adds a bit more variety to your itinerary, especially as it includes a boat ride, but they are both worth a visit. See below to find some inspiration:

Happy planning and get back to us anytime.

    Best,
    Steph

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

We have decided to stay in Wengen instead as it is quite accessible to Lauterbrunnen, Jungfraujoch and Grindewald. We will also skip Paragliding and spend the money to do the adventure activities in Grindewald instead.
