We are planning spent 10 days in Switzerland and we are not sure if we should stay 1 or 2 days in Zurich.

Any suggestions or experiences to share?

Initial plan is 2 days in Zurich, 1 day in Lucerne, 4 days in Wengen region and 2 days in Geneva. The last day is return to home so is almost a lost day.

Would you take more time on Wengen/Lucerne? We would love to go to Bellinzona region but I don’t think we have enough time.

    Thank you for any suggestions.

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.com, MarkLarry!

I’m afraid you’re right about the Bellinzona area (http://www.myswissalps.com/bellinzona). Although you could squeeze in a visit, that would be at the cost of other regions. And it usually makes sense to spend some time in the same region, in order to explore it at ease and have a bit of flexibility in your itinerary. I’m sure you’ll love the regions that are on your list now, and you certainly won’t get bored with them!

As for the amount of nights spent in Zurich (http://www.myswissalps.com/zurich): that really depends on your preferences. If the Swiss Alps are your main interest, I’d cut it down to just 1 night in Zurich. You can get a nice impression of the city in 1 day, or even in a half day, for example with this city hike: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/zurich. You could add the extra night to Lucerne, which sits in a beautiful region with lots of possible day trips: http://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne. Here are tips for the Jungfrau region in which Wengen (http://www.myswissalps.com/wengen) is located: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion. And please find tips for Geneva at http://www.myswissalps.com/geneva. Again, you can get a explore parts of the city with a reasonably short hike such as this one: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/geneva.

Giving your stay in Wengen I assume you’ll be traveling by train? If so, there are 2 wonderful scenic ways to get from Wengen to Geneva:

All travel options can be found in the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. And make sure to look into rail passes, as they’ll help you save money during your trips. An 8 day Swiss Travel Pass, combined with local tickets for the first and last days, may work well for you:

Here’s how to find out which pass is best for your plans: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

I hope this gets you started. Please let us know in case you have further questions!

Thank you Annika for such an amazing content! It will help us a lot during our trip.

Now we’re debating if it’s worth only get the half-fare card or a full pass for 4 or 5 days.

Just about everybody goes to Wengen; why not be different and visit the Bellinzona area. It is very interesting. Castles, lakes, access to mountains, the ‘Pierce Brosnan’ dam etc

Remember that the very reason for building a railway base tunnel under the Gotthard pass is to make the journey from Northern Switzerland to Ticino much faster. Zurich – Bellinzona journey time is less than 2 hours

Thank you!!! We are really considering going to Bellinzona. Hopefully works for us.
