Hi Arno,
I got my Passes on email. However, just would like to clarify one thing.
My full name is Shah Pratik Kamleshkumar (Last First Middle) which I properly mentioned while applying for Passes on raileurope.co.in (Name on Passport) But instead of this, Shah Pratik Kamlesh is mentioned on the pass copy I got from them on email. So the”Middle Name” is not mentioned completely.
Do you think this will create any problem with Ticket checker in any trains in Switzerland? Even if it does not, would it be better to ask them to make proper changes to my name? Is it possible to change it now?
Please note that I have a copy of the Order wherein I have mentioned my name properly, so the change in the name is from their side. Appreciate your suggestion. Thanks
ArnoModerator15484 posts12 March 2018 at 14:24:09 #878139Hi Philipd,
Yes, 1st class is really nice on some trips. With a 2nd class pass you can always buy an occasional upgrade ticket though. If you prefer all 1st class then currently your best option is the other promo (20% off the pass). Two 1st class 8-day Swiss Travel Passes would normally be $1382 but if you apply the code 20SWISSTRAVEL18 at http://www.raileurope.com/pas s/swiss-pass-5934 you’ll get a $276.40 discount. So you only pay $1105.60. It’s a good deal; you’d pay $1322 via http://www.happyrail.com/en/p ass/europe/switzerland /swiss-travel-pass-consecutive, which is the cheapest retailer at the moment (see here).
If you are ok with 2nd class then you can apply the code 29SPRING18 at the same web page and pay $807 instead of $872. Still a good deal as you’d pay $834 at the Happyrail site.
Coupon codes can be applied during the third step of the purchase, after filling out passenger details.
ArnoModerator15484 posts12 March 2018 at 14:31:50 #878140Hi Pratik,
It looks like they only omitted the last letters. That is not a problem and happened to me as well. Apparently their name field has a maximum length, so the last letters may not be printed for somewhat longer names. It is fine as long as the passport number is ok, and if you can show your passport to the conductor on request (the original, not a copy).
sharon0213Participant11 posts13 March 2018 at 1:20:51 #878142I am having a problem similar to the one Sim experienced and would appreciate some assistance. I’m trying to purchase two 15-day 2nd class travel passes, which total $1062 USD. Because this takes me over the $1000 minimum, I used the 30SPRING18 promo code to receive a $100 discount. This reduced price of $962 shows up on the pages until the final payment page, where the price to be paid jumps back up to $1062 USD and there is a note at the top of the page saying ‘The total price dropped below the promo code minimum so it was removed.’ But the price dropped below BECAUSE of the promo code. Am I missing something?
ArnoModerator15484 posts13 March 2018 at 6:16:13 #878143Hi Sharon0213,
That sounds like a technical issue, really weird. I’ll try to contact them and let you know what I find out.
Arno
sharon0213Participant11 posts13 March 2018 at 10:04:26 #878144That would be great! I have tried it a few different times using different browsers with the same result, so it does seem to be some kind of glitch.
Thank you, Arno.

ArnoModerator15484 posts15 March 2018 at 18:22:06 #878145Hi everyone,
Rail Europe is currently investigating the issues with the coupon codes, but has not been able to find any problems so far. If they share more with me I’ll let you know. Meanwhile North-American customers can best call their customer service center at 1-800-622-8600 if they encounter any problems.
sharon0213Participant11 posts15 March 2018 at 21:32:03 #878146Thanks, Arno! I continued to have issues just now, so I contacted customer service when I was on the payment page again, and they were able to complete the order (with promo discount) for me.

Thanks for all your assistance. As an update, I have received my STP(2) from RailEurope via email on Tuesday, 13/3 (purchased on 9/3/18) but no response on my email to them enquiring about the promo issue; which resulted in me paying full price (sob, sob!). In the meantime, I purchased another 2 STP from HappyRail and received my STP on the same day, happy happy !!
All 4 of us are looking forward to our adventure in Switzerland come 1 April 2018 !!
Cheers
Sim

You can always decide before boarding a train or boat to upgrade to 1st class for just that one trip. They will charge 1/2 the price difference between a 1st class and 2nd class ticket prices.

If you order from your local Canadian site at http://www.raileurope.ca/pass /swiss-pass-5934, they should only ask for the adult passport numbers. For children under 16, just select Swiss Family Card. While on the train you should have all travel documents at hand in order to show there is at least one parent traveling along.
Please give it a try and let us know.
ruediParticipant26 posts16 March 2018 at 13:00:25 #878152Thank you so much!! We leave May 23 and come home June 28th.
thought we would get a 15 day pass and perhaps a 15 flex and hopefully have enough days that we would pay for train etc in order not to buy additional passes.. Any thoughts?
ruediParticipant26 posts16 March 2018 at 13:02:50 #878153One more please…someplace it said the that names must match passport…son’s passport is Richard David Matthew plus surname…do we put them all in?
thanks again

Yes the name on the rail pass should match the passport. Sometimes there is only a certain # of characters allowed so if you run out that is ok – just get as much as you can. 🙂

My name is Shilpa. We (4 adults and 2 kids – age 5yrs & 9yrs)are traveling to Zurich , Lucerne & Lauterburnan from 6 April to 13 April (8 days) . So i wanted to know if Swiss Travel Pass for 8 days will be a good deal? Or you experts suggest any other option like half pass.
Also what are the best activities/ bucket list suggested for travellers visiting during this season?
Thank you!
