    Hi to all the experts/advisers,

My husband and I, at mid 50’s, are flying in to Zurich on 16/5/2017 early morning. Currently planning to spend 10 nights in Switzerland all in before leaving for Munich. We are not skiers but lovers of scenic sightseeing, easy hikers, and good food. Would love to hear your advice or any honest personal opinions on our tentative itinerary as below:

    1) Arrival 16/5/2017 : Zurich Airport. Direct to St Moritz for 2 nights stay. Train info and luggage carrying advice needed please. Not sure about the train from Chur to St Moritz.

2)18/5 : Glacier Express from St Moritz to Zermatt. 2 nights in Zermatt. Can I buy the ticket now and make seats reservation? Zermatt sightseeing info please.

    3) 20/5: Zermatt to either Wengen or Interlaken? Planning for 4 nights stay. Please advice if these towns ( including Grindelwald, Muerren) are still quiet? Heard some hotels and restaurants are closed in May. So we concern if it is the right time or not to stay there. Sightseeing: Jungfraujoch, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald….would you recommend to include Montreux too? Train info please and sightseeing, food, hotels recommendations are welcome as still working on them.

    4) 24/5 -26/5 Luzern. Sightseeing, hotel and food recommendations are welcome as we are still working on it.

Further questions: Would we miss a lot of things if we delete St Moritz, stay in Chur just for a night and then head off to Zermatt the next morning? Thought it might save us one more day for Berner Oberland or Luzern if needed.

hope to hear from you soon, thank you.

Hi sscliew and welcome to MySwissalps!

    1. Train information for traveling in Switzerland can be found here. For searching train schedules you can use the Swiss Railways timetable here. For a 10 night stay you may be well served by purchasing a Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Travel Pass Flex that can be bought for 8 or 15 days of travel, covering virtually all forms of transit in Switzerland (once bought you can just hop on any train you want at any time). Luggage can be brought on any train – is there a specific concern you have?
    2. If you buy a Swiss Travel Pass or STP Flex, you only need to make reservations for the Glacier Express. You can and should make those reservations now. All information on passes, reservations and point to point tickets if needed can be found here. You can find information on what to do when you are in Zermatt here.
    3. Interlaken is a bigger town and you won’t have issues with hotel or restaurant closures there. Some will be closed in the small towns (Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren) and they will be fairly quiet in mid May. Each town link above also has hotel recommendations for you as well.
    4. Here is our page on Luzern – you can find a list of activities to do in the area as well as our recommended hotels.
    5. Montreux in May is a lovely destination and from Luzern you can take the Golden Pass Panoramic Express to get there!
    6. You could skip St. Moritz to spend another night elsewhere – but don’t let that night be Chur (there is not much in this town to see or do).

Hope that helps with your trip planning! Once you have read through your options above don’t hesitate to ask us more questions!

    Regards,
    Lucas
