11 days Zermatt, Montreux and Lucerne in December

    My husband and I will be in Switzerland during winter for 11days for our honeymoon. We know Switzerland is a very beautiful country and it was always our dream to be there! We have planned a rough itinerary for the 11 days and would love to have your views and suggestions.

    19 Dec

    8am – arrive in zurich airport

    -travel to zermatt

    -check in at hotel, settle down & explore

    20 Dec

    – visit Matterhorn/hiking at matterhorn

    21 Dec

    – visit Gornergrat

    22 Dec

    – Leave zermatt to montreux

    – check in at hotel, Xmas market

    23 Dec

    – Visit Gruyeres (cailler choco, cheese factory, gruyeres castle)

    24 Dec

    – chillon castle, chaplin museum (any other suggestions on what will be open since its xmas eve?)

    25 Dec

    – Leave montreux to lucerne via goldenpass

    – chk in hotel, Chapel bridge, lion Monument

    26 Dec

    – Day trip to interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, grindelwald, Lake brienz

    – Or try Jungfrau if clouds clear

    27 Dec

    – Mount rigi via lake lucerne

    28 Dec

    – Shopping and explore nearby lucerne etc

    29 Dec

    – leave lucerne to zurich for flight back at 1030am

    Everything looks pretty good here.

    Dec. 20: You can’t hike/visit the Matterhorn itself. There are nearby mountains (like Gornergrat) you can visit and other hikes in the area to get good views of the Matterhorn. See more details here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/zermatt/activiti es

    Not much else will be open after 12pm on December 24 to the morning of Dec.27 I’d look at a mountain visits as railways will be operating.

    Hi Lucas! Thank you for your help. In that case, the mountain visits to lauterbrunnen areas and mount rigi on 26 and 27 dec will be fine right?

    Yes, the mountain visits are a good idea on holidays – most everything else is closed.
