HI,

With our fingers crossed that Covid and all variants will allow for International travel, my wife and I have planned a 15 day tour of Switzerland in May. We have purchased the Swiss Rail Pass and reserved accommodations – mostly in B&B’s so we can spend a minimum of 3 nights in each destination. We have lived in the Canadian Rockies for over 40 years so very much enjoy the “mountain lifestyle.” However, we do not have the railway system that Switzerland is famous for, and we very much want to enjoy it.

We don’t necessarily need the quickest train route from point A to B, but rather we don’t want to miss a panoramic or “must see” train route. Looking at our literary, any suggestions or comments on train routes or must see day trips would be greatly appreciated.

Day 1 - 3 Arrive in Luzern from overnight flight into Zurich for 3 nights.

· Train from airport to Luzern

Day 4 – 6 Luzern to Murren on train for 3 nights.

Day 7 – 11 Train from Murren/Lauterbrunnen to Montreux for 5 nights.

· Lots of opportunities here for day trips to Geneva, Zermatt, Lausanne

Day 12 – 15 Train from Montreux to Ascona/Muralto for 4 nights

· Lots of opportunities here for day trips to Lugano, and other small towns in the area

Day 16 Train to Verona Italy

Thanks for all your valuable advice,

Bob

Let's keep fingers crossed

You have given sufficient time for places. Pl finalize sightseeing plan. I have given sample itinerary but for shorter period of 8-9 days www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/trip-report-switzerland-may-2017

Cheers

Hi Bob,

Thanks for sharing your itinerary. I think it's very well-planned. Allocating a few days in each base gives you more flexibility to explore each destination and plan day trips without feeling rushed. If you wish to include a panoramic train ride into your itinerary, I think the Golden Pass to Montreux from Interlaken might be your best option.

Regards,

Anna

Hey Bob, i'm keeping my fingers crossed to that COVID will be kind to us Swiss Alps lovers.

Just wanted to share something that you may already know, that quite a number of family hotels closes for a break between the winter and summer seasons in end April/early May. They would reopen somewhere in 2nd or 4th week of June. That said I'm sure you will not end up with having nowhere to stay, just do check your favorite hotels on their opening days to avoid disappointment. Cheers.
