I will be visiting Geneva from 22 July – 2 August…I would like to spend the first couple of days exploring Geneva itself (23 & 24 July)..what would you suggest I see & do ?
Then after a week of work, I am free to explore the following weekend again(30 & 31 July)…
Should I do 2 day trips, using Geneva as my base…if so, where would you suggest?
Or a 2 night trip somewhere?…possibly incorporating a panoramic train trip, which I would love!
Can anyone help with some advice please.

From Geneva you can easily visit Lausanne (https://www.myswissalps.com/lausanne) and Montreux (https://www.myswissalps.com/montreux). Both are great cities and so different from Geneva. In Lausanne, I suggest the Olympic Museum and the harbour, called Ouchy. You can also visit the old town (Wednesdays are market days) and the cathedral. The view from the top of the cathedral is great.
Between Lausanne and Montreux, there is the Lavaux vineyard. Famous and wonderful. This is a great walk there: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/lutry-epesses.
In Montreux, Chillon castle is a must, I think. At least from the outside. The boat ride on Lake Geneva is also one of my fav: http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakegeneva

In Geneva, there are many museums. I recommend the Maison Tavel and its fabulous scale model of Geneva when it was still surrounded by mediaeval walls.

Close to Geneva you can take a day trip on the Nyon – St Cergue railway into the peaceful Jura mountains. You can see the Jura mountains in the background of my picture taken in Geneva 10 days ago
At Montreux, I recommend the Rochers de Naye mountain railway as a lovely day trip. Spectacular views of the Alps on the way up and from the top.
