Is it suggested to get a rail pass if only in Switzerland for 2 full days? We plan to travel by train from Basel to Lucerne and then from Lucerne to Zurich airport. We will probably go on boat or lift to mtn tops as well. Thanks for your input.I welcome any suggestions for activities as well since our trip is so short. Want to make beat use of our time.

I doubt a pass would be of any benefit for such a limited itinerary.
If you wanted to go Basel to Luzern via Interlaken and take a bit of a look at the Jungfrau region then a Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass and bit.ly/2rkekat) could be beneficial. In that case you could also enjoy some of the Golden Pass route (http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass) which is covered by that pass. The pass will also get you as far as Grindelwald or Mürren in the Jungfrau region.
