We are travelling from Aug 23rd to Sept 1st (10 days) using a Swiss Travel Pass.

    • If we buy 2nd class, will we find seats on all the scenic trains and boats? Or do you recommend buying 1st class?
    • As we are travelling 10 days, we are planning to buy 15 day Swiss Travel Pass. Is there a cheaper option to combine with an 8 day travel pass?
    • Does below itin look okay?

    Zurich -1 day, Interlaken 2 days, Montreux-2 days, Zermatt-1 day, St. Moritz-2 days, Lugano-1 day, Zurich-1 day

    Hi Nita,

    • Scenic trains (noted here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/activities/sceni ctrips/train) require reservations so you’ll get a seat with either 1st or 2nd class passes. Boats can’t be reserved, but the only way to be on the top deck of a boat is with 1st class tickets. Also 1st class is typically quieter which can be nice in August with many tourists everywhere.
    • I don’t think so. But it depends on your final itinerary. You can check rail passes against each other once you have finalized all the trips you’ll take here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass
    • I’d extend a day in Lugano. St. Mortiz to Lugano is a long day more often than not. I’d cut 1 or both nights in Zurich to add a night or two to Lugano. Use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out your trips and see if the timing and duration work for you: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

1st class is roomier but not always quieter than 2nd class

True. 🙂 depends on who is in there! They like to try to keep it quiet though.

On boats you definitely want first class. If you have a 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass you can simply pay an upcharge to get a first class boat ticket.
