We had an amazing trip in 2018 (trip report posted), thank you all!

We spent our arrival day in Zurich, then later afternoon transfered to Lucerne for 3 nts (Titlis, Mt Rigi), Wengen for 7 nts (day trips to Lake thun and brienze, a day in Bern, time in murren and lauterbrunnen), and Zurich 1 nt before early morning flight home. Our highlights were Mannlichen Walk and Titlis Day.

We have planned an Alaska Trip for summer 2021. This includes 11 days on land, and 7 days cruising. But, with the cruise industry uncertain, we are thinking of possibly doing a return trip to Switzerland instead (would be 1st trip to Europe for our will be 9 yr old).

I am wondering what a good 2nd trip itinerary would look like… Maybe 3-4 nts in Lucerne (Bern Day Trip or 2, Rhine Falls Area, Rigi, Titlis, any other recs…Basel?). Then a week in Wengen….loved that place…the easy hikes/day trips to thun/brienze….any other good places to see from there? Maybe see a new place like Italian border area? Should we plan time in Appenzelle region?

Curious on recs for a 2nd trip!

    Hi Autumnz,
Glad to know you enjoyed your first trip to Switzerland and you want to repeat the experience!
Lucerne for 3 or 4 nights sounds great, there are many possible day trips from there:
    https://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne/activities

I’d particularly recommend a day trip to Rigi and Pilatus, which can be done while staying in Lucerne: https://www.myswissalps.com/rigi, https://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus

A day trip to Bern would certainly be nice, especially if you’d include a train ride through the Emmen valley (rather than the quicker default route), a week in Wengen would also be very interesting, here you can find a list of recommended activities in the region: https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion

If you are fond of visiting an area with a more ‘southern’ atmosphere, you could consider
    – a day trip from Lucerne to Lugano using the Gotthard Panorama Express or
    – a day trip from Wengen to Zermatt with the RegioExpress Lötschberger:

You might check the different train timetables on the following link: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Hope these few tips will help you to plan your second trip to Switzerland! If you need more information, don’t hesitate to ask here on the forum! 🙂

    Warm greetings

    Sara
