    Hi Philburley,

If your only travel is to Jungfraujoch then I doubt any pass would work for you. But if you are in Interlaken for 5 full days (you are in Interlaken or at least Switzerland from the 3rd to 9th correct?) I’d guess you’ll travel to at least a few other towns if not other mountains?

If that is true, I’d look at the Swiss Half Fare Card or the Regional Pass Bernese Oberland

But it will depend on your final itinerary. You’ll need to decide on that first.

Once you have that information you can read our page here on how to choose the best rail pass. There is a spreadsheet there to help with the math to compare the passes and see what saves you the most money. http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

    Hi Phil-

<<“so just buy tickets on the day it is clear and good to go??”>>

Are you aware that the Jungfrau Marathon is on September 8th? There will be major disruption of traffic patterns on the 8th and to some degree on the 7th, and crowds lingering on to some degree on the 9th.

http://www.jungfrau-marathon.ch/en/ So, it is important to understand your dates. Do you mean the 3rd through the 9th or the 3rd through the 6th?

This website gives ticket prices from various stations to Jungfraujoch:

    http://www.jungfrau.ch/shop/e n/tickets/bergbahn/ang ebote/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe

From the SBB timetable, the cost for a second class round trip from Interlaken Ost to Kleine Scheidegg ( which is the first part of the trip) is 82.80 CHF. The rest of the trip up to Jungfraujoch is 128 CHF roundtrip, undiscounted. Total 210.80 CHF That is the price shown for the entire round trip from IO on the Jungfraubahn link, also.

    More information here:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch

    and, specifically, here:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch/tickets

This page explains the rail passes, and the maps give details on coverage.

I am not the expert on passes, but i recall that Swiss Travel Pass gives a 25% discount on the rail trip, and a half fare card gives 50 %. Lucas gave you good links to check.

A Half-fare card costs about 120-125 CHF. If all you use it for is to take the Jungfrau trip, you spend about 120-125 CHF to save half of 210.80 CHF. But, if you travel elsewhere, you also save 50% on those fares……

The Half Fare Card would give you 50 % savings on the Swiss part of your inbound and outbound journeys (Milano and München) if you had applied the discount when you bought the tickets.

Oh I see, your ticket from Interlaken to Munich is on Sept 6, not 9. Ok!

So you can find prices to any destination on the Swiss railways timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

If you make a lake cruise and maybe one other train trip (mountain or town) a rail pass may be worth the purchase price.

Look at the Swiss Half fare Card. It gets you 50% off all trips you make for 120chf valid 30 days: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard

Another thought is the Regional Pass – Bernese Oberland. See coverage area here: http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and/validity – It is a 4 day pass for 250chf

It gets you to Jungfraujoch for 99chf round-trip from Kleine Scheidegg (free to Kleine Scheidegg). And gets you free boat cruises on Lake Thun and Brienz among other free trips shown on link above.

As I said before, to know if a rail pass will save you any money you need to decide on your daily itinerary first. Then find prices and do the math to compare (use spreadsheet on my last link on my previous post).
