Hi I am arriving Zurich airport 16:00 and aiming to reach my hotel in Wengen by dinner time on day 1. Traveling with 2 kids age 11 and 14. We plan to visit Jungfraujoch on day 2, then Interlaken and travel back to Zurich on day 3.

    a few questions:

    1. Would you recommend purchasing a Swiss Travel Pass at the airport?
    2. Can we simply board the train without reservation?
    3. How do we upgrade to first class?
    4. Am I correct that the pass allows for 25% discount to Jungfraujoch and free for children?
    5. Can I purchase Jungfraujoch tickets at Wengen station right before we ascend?

    thank you

Hi Apjlee and welcome to MySwissAlps!

    1. I’d buy the Swiss Travel Pass online here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass/ price. You can get it emailed to you for printing at home and no need to wait in line at the airport (plus you have a backup copy to print again if you lose your pass). You can also order the Swiss Family Card (https://www.myswissalp s.com/swissfamilycard) at the same time (free) that covers your kids for free everywhere.
    2. Yes
    3. You can upgrade at a rail station before boarding the train on any section you want to upgrade to 1st class for. Or buy a 1st class Swiss Travel Pass.
    4. Yes. The Swiss Travel Pass gets you 25% off the ticket cost from Wengen or Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch. The kids are free if you get the Swiss Family Card as noted above. See information on the coverage area here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass/ validity
    5. Yes

Also, you’ll find the Swiss railways useful to plan out all your train trips: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

you may also want to keep in mind that Schilthorn (an equally impressive journey ..with a view of all the surrounding peaks stretching all the way to Mont Blanc) is covered under the Swiss Travel Pass . This trip can be done in a day also covering Lauterbrunnen , murren and Gimmelwald (all lovely sights on their own).
