    Hi ,

I am back again! There are just too much beautiful places that we wanted to go and geography is really challenging! And being there in winter, limits our itineraries quite a bit.

Thank you so much for your patience … would like some advice for 3 full days maximisation of the Swiss pass from 6 – 8 December from base at Interlaken.

Day 1 – can this be done all in a day? If so, would appreciate a suggested time efficient route or any other suggestions: or if it is too much in a day, then maybe we can move one of this to the other days?

Grindelwald, Jungfraujoch, Lauterbrunnen , Tuand Lake Brienz, Trummelbach Falls, Schiltton

    Day 2 –

    (as per Lucas’s previous suggestion)

Take Golden Pass route from Interlaken to Montreux:and then train up to Broc and the Cailler chocolate factory? This would be a full day trip though so get an early start to not be too rushed. The trip and factory entrance are included in the Swiss Travel Pass.

    Day 3

Lucerne/Mt Titilis and anything else we should cover on this day?

In addition, we have a tentative plan to activate the Swiss Pass on 5 Dec coming from Paris .. and maybe stop overnight in Berns or even Lucerne, since it is nearer than Interlaken so we can continue using our Swiss Pass earlier. In that case, any suggestions on the must do in Berns? (or if it is Lucern, we can then swop our plans for Day 3) . Alternatively, we will just pay for the point to point ticket and spend the rest of the day exploring Interlaken City with the free visitor’s pass.

We are deliberating if we should keep the one day of our 4 day pass to travel from Basel onwards on 5 Dec or keep it for travel from Interlaken to Zurich (where we will be from 9 to 11 December ) and use it for going to the Rhein Falls .. that would probably be the only destination that will require train ride from Zurich as we intend to just explore Zurich City for one other day as we leave for Salzburg early in the morning of 11 Dec.

Thanks again so so much .

    Christine

    Hi Christine,

    Day 1:

Doing those towns, attractions in 1 day depends on how much time you want to spend at each place. Do note Trummelbach Falls is closed in the winter. You can use the timetable to find the most direct routing between any town and/or mountain: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

    Day 2:
    Sounds good

Day 3: I don’t think you’ll be able to (or want to) try and fit in more than Titlis and Lucerne in 1 day.

In order to decide when to use your travel days (do note you can’t pick and choose the dates with a regular Swiss Travel Pass) you can compare ticket prices for the 2 days and see which is more expensive (then use the rail pass for that day).

There are some helpful links and tips from your previous post here if you didn’t see it: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/how-to-leverage-on-a-swiss-pass-in-the-afternoon

For me there are no must-do’s in Bern, just a really nice city to explore I think if you have the time. Lucerne has many more “popular” attractions for tourists I think.

    HI Lucas,

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

Would it be viable for us to get the Swiss Half Fare Card – in addition to the 4 day Swiss Travel Pass? Since we do have a little bit of struggle about the days to activate my Swiss Travel Pass (might consider the Flexi pass – so I can pick the days to activate and also in consideration of weather contingencies). The Half Fare Card – we can use the discount concession for the train rides from Basel to Interlaken and also to Zurich, etc… plus maybe some other attractions on the days that we are not using the Swiss Travel Pass? As the card is valid for a month..

    Thanks for your patience!

    Christine

    Hi Christine,

Usually it won’t work out economically to buy both the Swiss Half Fare Card and Swiss Travel Pass for shorter stays – longer stays with more travel changes the equation a bit.

To know for sure you can check prices and do the math with our spreadsheet here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

You can compare just having the Swiss Travel Pass + point to point tickets or both rail passes or just the Swiss Travel Pass Flex for example.

You’ll need to set your daily itinerary first before you can check costs and figure out the best rail pass for you.

You can read more about those rail passes on our site here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issrailpasses
