I will start my travel on July 1. If I buy the pass valid from June 30 for eight days but actually start the travel on July 1 would that be an issue in terms of getting the 30% discount?

    Hi NewJersey,

That’s no problem, no-one will check if you actually use the pass on the first day. Your pass will be valid until July 7.

    Thanks, Arno!

So, when I first use the pass on July 1, I will not be asked the question, why did I not use it the first day, ie, June 30th?

The last day I will use the pass would be July 6th

They won’t ask and, frankly, they won’t know whether or not you used the pass on the first day or not. They typically just take a quick glance at your pass (to check that the current date is within the range of dates allowed) and then move along. Sometimes they also ask to see your passports so you should always have them readily available. There is nothing that says that you must use your pass on day one or any other day for that matter so should be no problem at all.

In your experience, do they ever have promotions for the regional passes? Tell Pass, Bernese Oberland Regional…?

    Hi elbarcosr1,

There are not many promotions for those passes, and if there are it’s usually just for spring or fall, not for the high season. If there is a promo we will show it on our regional pass pages and in the forum as well.

I was very interested in this promotion for a 30% discount on the Swiss Travel Pass until I learned that it applies to First Class only. Is there any discount for Second Class available? Or might there be one forthcoming based on history?

Still thinking that the Swiss Travel Pass makes the most sense given our itinerary but the Swiss Half Card is a close second but the inconvenience of having to purchase tickets for every travel segment is an issue.

I was hoping for a promotion on the 2nd class pass as well, but they actually don’t come along very often so we went ahead and jumped on this offer. It basically allowed us to purchase 1st class passes for the price of 2nd class. Two years ago (and on several other trips), some of the more popular routes between cities (like Interlaken, Bern, Zurich, Lucerne) were VERY crowded and we actually had a difficult time finding seats in 2nd class for the four of us. A couple of times we had to sit on our luggage near the entry/exit doors because there were no seats available. Typically 1st class cars are much less crowded and easier to find seats, so for us it’s a nice luxury to not have to worry about crowded train cars.

    Hi bgrindelwald,

Well, there is no other promotion specifically for the Swiss Travel Pass at the moment, but there is one if you also need a point to point ticket (e.g. to/from another country). All available promotions are listed on myswissalps.com/swisst ravelpass/promotions. You can check that page at any time as that’s where we add new promotions too.

    Hi liucindy66,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! Indeed it looks like the maximum number of discounted passes has just been sold. The promotion at myswissalps.com/forum/ topic/up-to-30-off-train-tickets-if-you-book-early is still available though.
