Hello Boyznme1 and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
Nice to hear you’re planning a little side trip to Switzerland!
Flying into Switzerland for sure makes sense from a time point of view. You however also have other airports available, see:

For the option of taking the train, see:

From Zurich, via Lucerne to Interlaken is definitely one of the most chosen routes to spend some days in Switzerland. It offers a nice mix of city and Lake (Lucerne) and mountain surroundings (Bernese Oberland, Interlaken). Check below links for inspiration:

However, because of Switzerland being very small, you could also choose to visit other areas of the country, this is entirely up to you.

A very recommendable tool for planning a trip through Switzerland is the timetable of public transportation, see details about it and how it works below:

I hope this provides some guidance and input to set you off planning in more detail. Feel free to get back to us anytime for further support.
Happy planning.

We just returned from a three week European trip. We spent six days in Switzerland and based ourselves in small town called Wengen in the Bernese Oberland. We stayed at a locally owned hotel called AlpenRose. We paid a little extra for a room in the annex and were rewarded with a spectacular view of the valley, with the mountains in the distance. We recommend it highly. We bought the half board–breakfast and dinner. In a word, delicious. Wengen is a wonderful place central to many of the places we wanted to see and there was more than enough to keep us busy. The scenery is breathtaking and it is easy to get to and from the various places we went via train, boat, and gondola. You’ll really enjoy this beautiful country.

Hi Neil –
Nice to hear that you enjoyed a stay in Wengen…it’s my first choice for the region.
I’ll say that if one’s intent is to have a base which includes includes easy access to the rest of Switzerland, Interlaken is a possibilty. I’d never stay there, personally, because of the superior Alpine experience in places like Wengen. But the choice is personal and influenced by the goals for the trip.
