    Hello,

We are a couple in our very early 30s from India and have planned for a 4 day trip to Switzerland, starting 29th March to 2nd April.
We visited this beautiful country in September 2018 and were amazed by its beauty, so a 2nd trip was very much expected.

During our last trip we visited Jungfraujoch, Mt. Titlis, Lauterbrunnen, and villages of Gimmelwald, Wengen and Murren (villages were the highlight of our stay in Switzerland)

For our upcoming trip we have a few questions and would love some feedback as well.

    Our itinerary:
    – Stay in Interlaken for all the 4 nights
    – 1 Day Oeschinen lake, explore the nearby areas and visit the Spies village
    – 1 day in Grindelwald and the hike to lake Bachalpsee lake
    – 1 day in Zermatt and the 5 Lake hike
    – 1 day exploring Lauterbrunnen and Gimmelwald / Muren

    1. We want to visit the Oeschinen lake, but I read in some forum that the cable car from Kanderstag to the lake doesn’t operate during Winters and operates only in between the months of May and October. Can someone please confirm this ? Though both of us love walking, but we wouldn’t be able to do this steep hike as my wife’s knees wouldn’t allow her to. Will the cable car operate during our visit ? (March 29th to April 2nd). And Is the lake frozen during the period and not worth a visit if its not Summers?

    2. Is the Zermatt 5 Lake High operational / doable during March end / early April ? We’ll stay in Interlaken but we plan to do a 1 day trip to Zermatt and do the 5 Lake hike.

    3. Similar to Lake Oeschinen, will the Bachalpsee lake also be frozen? Is it recommended ?

Thanks a ton for your help.

    Cheers
    Kaushal

Hello Kaushal and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’ve decided to return to Switzerland! This is always a wonderful statement about the experience.. 🙂

Unfortunately, the Oeschinensee will in deed not be reachable from the 18th of December until the 9th of May! Find details below:
    http://www.oeschinensee.ch/en /

The Mount First by Grindelwald will be accessible as the cable car runs throughout the year, see below:

To find more inspiration about what to do in the region of the Bernese Oberland check out below link:

However, I could imagine that the hike will still be snowy due to the altitude. Enquiring again closer to your arrival will provide more accurate information.

    Hi Kaushal Gai –

    I’ll strengthen what Steph said….

Unless the weather has been extremely and unusually mild, you will not be able to walk to Bachalpsee from First.

I have not checked the details at Zermatt…you can actually find that information about the 5-lakes walk on the internet, but I am 95% certain that the 5-Lakes walk will not be accessible.

When you came in September, you picked the month that on average, is the best one in the whole year. Very late March/ early April may be the worst…if you are interested in the high Alps… basically the tail end of Winter. However, at that time of year , lower altitudes are beginning to start to see the first days of Spring.
