    Hello,

Please help me finalise my itinerary for travel in April 3rd week for 4 days. We are 2 Adults + 2 Children.

Depending on the itinerary shall purchase either the Swiss – 4 day pass or Swiss Half Card

We shall be staying in Lauterbrunnen (very near Trummelbach falls)

Day 1) Depart Milan at 8.00 am by train. Should we go straight to Zermatt/Gornergrat and then reach Lauerbrunnen by late evening? Is it possible? We shall be travelling with our luggage also. Or is it better to reach Lauterbrunnen (by about 1.00 pm), check in and then visit Grutschalp, Murren (from Lauterbrunnen station) and back by late evening (The Schilthorn cable car from Schetelberg is closed and reopens only on Day 4 of my tour)

Day 2) Visit Wengen, Mannlichen, Hike (Panaromic walk- if possible) to Kleine Scheidegg. Take train back to Lauterbrunnen. Shall we have enough time to explore Lauterbrunnen valley, take a bike ride (at least 3 hours) and see the Staubach falls & Trummbelbach falls. I am assuming that since sunset is late (about 20.00) we could ride the bikes till late evening.

    Day 3) Open. Options are:

    a) Zermatt & Gornergrat (if not visited on Day 1).

    b) Lake Cruise – Lake Thun or Lake Brienz followed by a city visit (Bern??) or Brienzer Rothorn

    c) Any other suggestions that shall be interesting for the children (aged 9 & 13 years)

Day 4) Visit Schilthorn. Take the Lauterbrunnen – Grutschalp – Murren (hike if possible) – Gimmelwald – Schetelberg route or direct from Schetelberg. How much time shall it take? We have to take train from Basel in the evening.

We are not very interested in Cities, museums and long train rides. Would want to cover Cogwheel train, Cable Car & Gondola rides and of course Snow.

    Thanks for your help

    Regards

    Sanjay

    Hello Sanjay,

Some really nice places you’ve chosen to visit.

First of all, regarding your arrival from Italy, please check this link:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/italy

Secondly I believe you should fit Zermatt in from Lauterbrunnen as a day trip, as Milano – Zermatt – Lauterbrunnen is an incredible journey to do in a day and you say you don’t want to spend too much time on trains.

To find out about detailed travelling times use our timetable link. Make sure you read how to use it first, it is an utterly helpful tool for planning.

All the destinations and even the hikes you mention can be found on our page, just search them in the search bar to find more information about them. You have a nice selection and will simply have to choose the most inspiring ones for you.

In this link you will find a nice overview of available activities. You can sort them by “attraction type” to find the most appropriate for children.

Regarding possible rail passes I believe you are referring to the Swiss Travel Pass and the Swiss Half Fare Card. Find details about the two here:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass
    http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard

In any case make sure you look at the Swiss Family Card, with which your children will travel for FREE once you purchase one of the above passes:

For an overview of all Swiss rail passes, including regional ones, check this link:

Happy planning and get back to us anytime for further input.

    Best,
    Steph
