Hi, I have my travel booked to Switzerland from 27/12/2017 to 31/12/2017. I plan to visit board the Glaciar express on 28th and want to visit the alps (Titlis, Jungfrauch) on the rest of the days, but the weather is not looking good during my entire stay. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks.

    Hi Mikhil03-

In addition to the information that Chantal has provided,

I’ll note that weather forecasts for Switzerland are very unrleiable untill you are within 48 or preferably 24 hours of the chosen date.

And, even then, micro-climates mean that the weather can vary a lot within a short distance….for example, from one valley to another.

Hello Slowpoke, That is really nice to hear. I hope the weather is favourable during my stay. I will keep a close look at the weather over the next few days.

Can you suggest any website where I can get most accurate predictions?

    Thank you!!!

    This is a reliable site:

    http://www.meteoswiss.admin.c h/home.html?tab=overview

You can also check the webcams for visibility on the mountain tops.

    Webcams Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis

    http://www.pilatus.ch/en/nc/l ive/

    http://www.rigi.ch/en/Informa tion/Webcams

    http://www.titlis.ch/en/ski-resort/webcams

    Webcam Mürren

    http://www.hoteleiger.com/sei ten/remotelivecam.htm

    Webcams Schilthorn

    schilthorn.ch/en/Infos /Live

    Webcams Jungfrau Region

    http://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/live/webcams/

As it seems you would be travelling to the Jungfraujoch from Luzern, just be aware that conditions could change between the time you set out from Luzern and the time you arrive at the Jungfraujoch.

    >> I plan to visit board the Glaciar express on 28th

I assume you have this sorted out in terms of how to connect with the Glacier Express from Luzern, and have made your reservation. If you need any assistance with this, feel free to ask.

    Hi Alpenrose,

Can you please tell me how do i search for weather in alps like Titlis, Rigi,.. in the site you shared. I could see for Engelberg only.

For the GE – Yes I had gone through the posts on the forum, I will board the train from Luzern to Chur around 08:00 and hop onto the glaciar express from there. As I have to get back to Luzern I will get off at Brig. I have a 4 day swiss travel pass and have already made reservations on GE for 28th.

I have my return flight from Geneva on 31st at 21:30. Considering that can you please suggest if I can do the Titlis trip on that day.

    Thanks

    Hi mikhil03,

Forecasts for the mountains seem easier to find on the French site: http://www.meteocentra le.ch/fr/europe/suisse /temps-titlis/details/S067400 /

Don’t rely too much on mountain forecasts though…the weather changes quickly at those altitudes!

Whatever weather is forecast, it won’t necessarily last for the whole day (which can be a good thing or a bad thing). Check the webcams for visibility on top to help you decide whether or not you want to go up.

As you have a Swiss Travel Pass, if the weather is uncertain, you could just choose a mountain excursion that is free with your Swiss Travel Pass, and enjoy the experience, views or no views.

You could, but I wouldn’t do it if I had a flight to catch. Should there be high winds, the cableway could be shut down for safety reasons, and you could be delayed. On the occasions I have seen that happen, once the cableway is shut down, it stays shut down for the rest of the day. That is less likely to happen if you went somewhere on a cogwheel train. Can you do your excursion to Titlis on another day instead?

The Swiss Timetable will help you to arrange an excursion to Titlis or elsewhere, and get to the airport in time for your flight.

    Hi Alpenrise,

Sure I shall check the weather and webcam before going up the mountain. As far as Rigi is concerned, I llan to go there one day no matter what the weather is like. I am keeping Titlis also as an option on my last day only in case if the weather is not good on all of the previous days and is better in last day.

Can you please suggest me which would be the best stop to get off from the Glacier express. As I have to get back to Luzern, my plan is to get off at some good stop along the route, explore the town for few hours and take a train back.

    Thanks,

    Mikhil

    Hi Mikhil,

We describe here under “Don’t have time to do the full route?”, how to enjoy a part of the route as a day trip from Lucerne. You either get off the train in Brig or in Andermatt (which makes it a slightly shorter trip).
