4 minute connection at Brig station

    Good morning,

First of all, I am very thankful to this forum for helping me plan my last trip in November 2019 to Switzerland and it was second to none.

I am now planning to visit on Nov 8 from Venice to Interlaken and my concern that there is a train connection at Brig that is only 4 minutes. The train arrives at 21:14 (9:14 PM) at platform 3 and leaves at 21:18 (9:18 pm) from platform 4 for Spiez. It looks from the map that I would have to go down from platform 3 and back up to platform 4 within 4 minutes. This is the last train of the night.

    Is this possible to do?

Or is it possible to take my chances and then make a last minute booking when I come in November in either Brig or Interlaken?

Or should I book a stay in Brig as this is the last train of the night?

    Thank you,

    Memon

    Hi MEMON,

Don’t worry Platform 3 and 4 are located side by side. You just need to walk across the platform to get on the next train, so 4 minutes is more than sufficient.

Hi Anna. As long as we are talking about train connection times we are traveling from Geneva to Basel. We have a connection in Biel. Do you have any idea where train IC 5 comes into the station and what platform IC51 leaves from. Thanks for the help

    Hi Njk50,

when are you traveling? You can find the platform numbers in the timetable. Click on the chosen train route in te timetable. I’ve attached an example. Platforms may vary by date and time, so I should know when you are traveling so I can have a look.

At Biel/Bienne the IC5 services (track 3) connect across the same platform with the IC51 (track 2) services. This is intended to be a ‘seamless’ change of trains replacing what used to be a direct service (see below).

IC51 trains shuttle backwards and forwards once per hour Biel Bienne – Basel and vice versa

Background information: This happens because some years ago direct Geneve – Basel trains were abolished after being a mainstay of the Swiss railway timetable for over 75 years.
