Hi,
We are a group of six people with travel plan in mid October 13-17 Oct. We will get 4 day Swiss Travel Pass before the trip
This is what we thinking
Day 1 : 13 Oct morning train from Zurich airport to Lucerne, have a look around Lucerne & if possible have a short trip to Bern same day
Day 2: 14 Oct Glacier Express Chur – Brig sector (would need to book seats in advance)
Day 3: 15 Oct Mount Titlis & Engleberg
Day 4: 16 Oct Grindelwald & Interlaken
– 17 Oct Early morning fly out from Zurich airport
We are thinking making the most of the travel pass & self touring by train & bus….
Is this itinerary possible to do during this October time of the year? Any suggestions/advices for each day? Would cable cars be closed during this time for maintenance?
Hotel or AirBnB as we have 6 people? Is “Hotel De la Paix” good place to stay? Closed to public transport?

Yes, it is doable. Getting to Grindelwald will be a bit longer (2-3 hrs), but doable and the route will be beautiful. The Lucerne – Interlaken part of that trip is also part of the Golden Pass route: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/gettingthere.

The only that you should know, that in October daylight is already shorter, check the sunrise and sunset times here: http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/switzerland/lucerne.
This is how you can get to Titlis: http://www.myswissalps.com/titlis/gettingthere. You can also combine it with a boat trip (Lucerne – Stansstad), but check the timetable later – the autumn timetable might not be ready yet.

I’ll do that the first day, get off at Beckenried and take the cable car to Klewenalp
Will check the train timetable for other days and try to start early due to the day being shorter in October (thanks for reminding), we don’t have kids in the group which would make it easier I reckon.

I have another question my flight out from Zurich to Copenhagen departs at 7am
Is it possible to catch a train from Lucerne to the airport in time for the flight?
Or should I stay the last night in Zurich city/Zurich airport?

Hi Jerome,
The earliest train from Lucerne to Zurich Airport leaves at 4.52am and arrives at the airport at 8.20 am. This might be too late to catch your flight. So might be a good idea to spend the final night in Zurich.
