Hello Laura and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
You don’t say what time of year you are planning to travel?
But for such a short stay, overnighting in Basel and Zurich would be a waste. Pick 2 bases at most and concentrate on the Jungfrau Region (http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion) and Lucerne (http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne). Lucerne is 1 hour by train to Zurich Airport.
Use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel. If you haven’t used it before it will pay to read the instructions on that page before delving into the timetable.
Some form of travel pass will most likely be of benefit. You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass).

Hi,
You say you are going to be in Switzerland for five days, but as Rockoyster has already noted, you haven’t stated the dates of your trip. Are you flying into Basel and leaving from Zurich ? I am only guessing this because those two cities are at each end of the places you have mentioned. Unless you are flying into Basel, or arriving there by train, my advice would be to skip it entirely. After all, you have stated that you are “most interested” in seeing “beautiful mountains and lakes”. Five days will go quickly so choose carefully ! If I had to chose two lakes to see it would be Lake Geneva, known as the Léman in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, and Lake Lucerne, known as the Vierwaldstättersee in the German-speaking part. They are both definitely worth seeing and are not like each other. For beautiful mountains, and considering that you only have five days in all, I would suggest that you concentrate in the Bernese Oberland, often referred to as the Jungfrau region, perhaps basing yourself in Lauterbrunnen for a couple of nights, with one night in Lucerne and one in Montreux. When and where does your flight (or train) arrive ? Same question for your departure. Knowing this will make it easier for people to help.
