    Hi there,

My partner and I will be arriving in Zurich from Australia on the 11th September. We are excited about seeing some of the beauty of Switzerland. We stay in Zurich one night then we plan to take the scenic train to Interlaken where we stay for two nights in Matten bei.

We mostly want to do hiking, walking and things that don’t cost too much money but we would definitely like to invest in one or two sights/experiences while we are there. Perhaps JungfrouJoch or some kind of scenic visit.

After two nights in Interlaken, we then take the train (doesn’t have to be scenic) back to Zurich to stay one more night before heading to the airport.

We are trying to figure out the best Rail Pass for our trip:

    – Airport to Langstrasse Zurich & small amount of inter Zurich travel ( we plan on walking if we can)

    – Scenic train from Zurich to Interlaken

    – Inside Interlaken travel (maybe Jungfrou/scenic day out)

    – Train back to Weidekon Zurich

_ Train from Weidekon to airport

Any suggestions on day trip in Interlaken and help with the rail pass would be appreciated 🙂

    Thank you

Hi GemmaW and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Have a look at our page on how to choose the best rail pass. It will help you do the math to ensure you pick the most economical rail pass for your trip. I would look at the Swiss Travel Pass for 4 days (last 4 days, as getting from the airport to Zurich in under 8chf). You could also look at the Jungfrau Travel Passbut that will only cover travel once you reach Interlaken. A Swiss Half Fare Card is also a good option, but you have to buy a ticket on every trip you take which you avoid with the Swiss Travel Pass (except a trip to Jungfraujoch where the pass only covers 25% of the ticket cost).

For help on what to do in and around Zurich and Interlaken, click on their links for recommendations (what to do tab). There are some great lake cruises available near both towns that are a nice way to spend a nice afternoon.
