I would consider visiting Mount Rigi from Lucerne rather than Mount Pilatus. This simply because the “Golden Roundtrip” on Mount Pilatus is not yet available and the Mount Rigi trip is much more varied.

Please note that the cable car from Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad is not operating during the dates of your visit, so you would have to travel: Lucerne – Vitznau by boat – Rigi Kulm – Arth Goldau – Lucerne by cogwheel train and train, or vice versa. Check the “Route” section of above link for details.

You can do a nice roundtrip Lauterbrunnen – Jungfraujoch – Grindelwald – Lauterbrunnen
Recommended duration of staying at that altitude is around 2 hours, to do all the activities, enjoy the view and avoid the risk of altitude-sickness (which increases the longer the stay).

You don’t need a reservation for Mount Pilatus and/or Mount Rigi. For Mount Rigi you would not need any ticket, providing you hold a Swiss Travel Pass (check below link), for Mount Pilatus and also the Jungfraujoch you would need to buy the discounted ticket, which can be done online or upon arrival.
