We will be in Wengen for 6 days starting June 9 2018 and are interested in easy to moderate hiking 2-5 hours per day and visits to key areas such as Grindelwald, Schilthorn, Klein Scheidegg, Schilthorn, Panorama Weg, Eiger Trail, Trummelbach Falls, and Jungfrau. Looking for good combinations of hikes and sights. Are there routes and itineraries recommended to incorporate these areas? Suggestions would be very appreciated.

Hi Vinceperera and welcome to MySwissAlps!

We don’t have specific itineraries listed here to incorporate everything but you can read about those attractions and many hiking activities, in detail, on our Jungfrau Region activities page here and then create your own. Members may be able to give you their recommendations though on best routing.

On the above link we list all mountains in the area and how to get to them; as well as most major hiking routes and how to get to them as well – so a good read to get you started! Be aware that at higher elevations in early June that snow may well be present.

Those areas are all quite close to one another as well so it should be easy to create an itinerary. You can use the Swiss railways timetable here to plan your days.

You may also want to look at a Swiss rail pass of some sort. If this is the majority of your trip here in Switzerland then Jungfrau Travel Pass is a good option for you.

Along the same vein, we’re going to do the hike from Murren down to Gimmelwald and I was wondering about the hike from Gimmelwald down to Stechelberg. Is it steep? Is it a hike that a couple in their late 60’s / early 70’s should consider? How much time should we allow for a hike from Murren down to Gimmelwald and then down to Stechelberg? Or should we cable car down to Stechelberg? We’ll be traveling from mid-April to mid-May. Thanks.

Murren down to Gimmelwald? Don’t attempt the route described here http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/trip-report-part-6-lauterbrunnen. 😎

Couple in their late 60’s / early 70’s. No. We were planning on walking down to Gimmelwald; not climbing down to Gimmelwald.

Yes, we were considering this option, thanks for the suggestion. I assume this will not cover the train from Zurich to Interlaken correct? I’ve read in some posts that the Jungfrau Travel Pass would cover certain portions of the train from Zurich but was not clear on it.

    Hi VInce,

You would need to get from Zurich to Interlaken Ost or Brienz or Thun if you use 5/6-day pass on arrival in Jungfrau Region. Coverage of the Jungfrau Travel Pass is shown on map you can download here http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass/valid ity. Note 5 and 6 day passes have additional inclusions as described in map legend.

Another option if you want to travel a little further afield is the http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and. With this you only need to get from Zurich to Lucerne or Bern.
