Hi, i will be arriving in Lugano from venice on 18th July 2018. i am travelling with my parents (31 yrs, 59 yrs, 59 yrs) i need help with routes and which scenic trains to take.

July 18th: Visit Lugano --> Any suggestions what to do, i was thinking renting a boat for couple hours.

July 19th: Visit lugano ---> does the Gottarhard express only run 9:00 am in the morning or are there other times, is there an alternative to lucerne becasue 6 hours is a long trip? or should i skip lucerne and go to Interlaken and just spend 6 days there becasue there will be enough to do there.

July 20th:Open --> Need suggestions --> Visit lucerne or just go to Interlaken for 6 days?

July 21st:Open --> Need suggestions

July 22nd:Open --> Need suggestions

July 23rd: Open --> Need suggestions

July 24th: train to Zurich to catch flight

Should i buy a train pass?

Thank you

Hi Fwaliany,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! You'll first have to decide where you prefer to stay. The regions around Lugano, Lucerne and Interlaken all offer plenty of things to do for a week or much longer. This may help you decide:

There is only one Gotthard Panorama Express per day. It is the most scenic way to reach Lucerne, but there are other options too. As quick as 2 hours if you don't want to see the scenery. All the details are here: www.myswissalps.com/go tthardpanoramaexpress

Good luck making a decision :-)

Hi Fwaliany,

Be sure to use the search box on our site to help you with ideas as well - many trip reports in our forum can give you some insight on what our members liked on their trips. https://www.myswissalp s.com/forum/tripreport s

Once you've looked into your options and made decisions on what to do and where to go we'll be able to assist you on the best rail pass as well. I'd have a good look at the Swiss Travel Pass as a good option but you won't know which is best until you make your daily itinerary. https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass

Be sure to read through out page here for help choosing a rail pass as well: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass

ok so i have decided as follows:

July 18th: Visit Lugano --> Arrive from venice at noon

July 19th: Visit lugano ---> Whole day at lugano ---> Lake lugano, Mount Bre and Mount salvatore (if time)

July 20th: Visit Lucerne --> Arrive from lugano in morning ---> Visit Lucerne

July 21st: Visit Lucerne ------> Go to Rigi for a day trip?

July 22nd:Visit Interlaken -----> Arrive from lucerne in the morning ------> visit surroundings of interlaken? or take the golden pass?

July 23rd: Visit Interlaken ------>go to jungfrau for the day trip

July 24th: Visit Zurich -----------> Take the train to Zurich from interlaken

Questions:

1) Can we go to rigi for the day trip? is it feasible?

2) Do you think I am trying to visit too many places? Would it be tiring to visit this many places in 7 days? What if I cancel Lucerne and only do Lugano and interlaken?

3) What are the best regions to jungfrau?

  1. Yes, Rigi (https://www.myswissalp s.com/rigi/gettingther e) will take about 1/2 day from downtown Lucerne so no problem - timetable: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable
  2. July 19 in Lugano looks quite busy - you can do one of the mountains on July 18 if you want to do both while you are there; but I wouldn't try both in 1 day as well as a lake cruise.
  3. You mean best towns in Jungfrau region? https://www.myswissalp s.com/jungfrauregion

    I like Thun and Lauterbrunnen the most myself. https://www.myswissalp s.com/thun & https://www.myswissalp s.com/lauterbrunnen
