Hello Kay and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
What time of year are you travelling?
Use the SBB Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel and work out what is practical time-wise. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on that page.
As far a passes are concerned the Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card are worth considering. You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math.
For salt mines see http://www.myswitzerland.com/ en-au/salt-mines-in-bex.html.

Hi Kay,
>> We will be staying 7 days at Villars-Sur-Ollon. We would like to do Glacier 3000 … What rail pass would be good for that region? … We will be there Sept. 15-22, 2018.
Check whether your accommodation will provide you with a Free Access Card, which is valid during the period 2 June to 28 October 2018. Details of what it covers are at the link below. Scroll through to the third page of the picture grid to see what transport is covered. Note the dates, as not everything will be operating during your visit.

Villars is part of the ‘Chablais’ area. There is a network of scenic narrow gauge railways based on Aigle and Bex. You will be on the BVB line (Bex – Villars – Bretaye). Go down to Bex on this railway for the salt mines, and also to change onto the main line railway Geneva – Simplon.
Zermatt can be done but it is 3 hours from Villars, because there are two slow mountain routes linked by a fast main line train (Bex – Visp).
Otherwise do all the other local railways (Aigle – Champery, Aigle – Leysin, Aigle – Les Diablerets)
