Hi Rauchi ag12 and Welcome to MySwissAlps,
Nice to hear you’re planning to come to Switzerland.
There are many incredible locations and destinations to visit in Switzerland.
To get an idea of base towns located in the Swiss Alps use this link:
– http://www.myswissalps.com/ce ntraltownsalpsIf you arrive to Geneva you could travel
1. Montreux (overnight?) to Interlaken (base town 1) and then via Lucerne (possible base) towards Zurich for departure.
Or
2. Geneva to Interlaken (base town 1) to Zermatt (base town 2 OR daytrip) and then to Zurich for departure.

What do u think about the above travel plan.does justics to the must visit places?can we squeeze a bit and include zermatt as well or extend our night stay in mauntreux?
Removed userParticipant72625 posts19 March 2019 at 10:10:51 #906819Hi Rauchi ag12,
I see you’ve been though the links. Lots of information, I’m aware of that.
Sounds like a nice itinerary you’ve set up.
About your questions:
1. Yes, I absolutely believe that it’s worth a visit, but have no personal experience doing it.2. I think both options you mention above are valid;
staying 2 nights in Montreux and 2 in Interlaken or
1 night in Montreux and 3 in Interlaken, it really depends on which area you prefer exploring.OR
you consider doing 1 night Montreux – 1 night Zermatt – 2 nights Interlaken.

We’re here for further input.
Happy planning.

StephRemoved userParticipant72625 posts19 March 2019 at 10:31:30 #906820I am amazed with your super quick and informative response.#1 Is Materhorne (i mean the glacier paradise) advisable with a two to three year old kid?#2 which peaks can i touch and play with snow and are safe for kids?
Removed userParticipant72625 posts19 March 2019 at 11:06:39 #906821Thanks a lot Ruchi for your appreciation,
1. Again, be careful with spelling, the Matterhorn itself can’t be visited without climbing, but as you say, the Glacier Paradise on Klein Matterhorn can.
– http://www.myswissalps.com/kl einmatterhornRead the preparation section to for input about travelling with a child. I personally would NOT go up to over 3’800 meters with a child, not because of any actual risk, it just might not at all be enjoyable for the little one.
You will most probably still find snow on some locations around your destinations and definitely Mount Titlis (just over 3000 meters) will be a good option to play in the safely in the snow.

StephRemoved userParticipant72625 posts23 March 2019 at 10:45:15 #906822Now that we have finalised our itenary : 1night mauntreux 3 nights interlaken covering jaungfraugh ,shilthorn and zermat 2 nights in lucerne covering mount titlis.we want to take the golden pass from mauntreux to interlaken.our doubt is should we take the swiss pass or point to point tickets.we are getting local bus coupons from our hotels in interlaken and lucerne.which option would be cheaper?
Removed userParticipant72625 posts23 March 2019 at 10:54:02 #906823Hi Ruchi
Great you are already at the stage where you have a detailed itinerary!
In order to choose the best travel pass, you can use the spreadsheet tool we have developed to compare different options: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass
Doing the math is the best way to know you are getting the most value for money.
You can use the timetable to check fare prices, just note that it automatically gives you half fare prices, or 50% off instead of full fare so you will need to double the prices to get the correct price for point to point tickets: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable
All the best on your journey!
Maria.
Removed userParticipant72625 posts25 March 2019 at 11:02:07 #906824Hi!!yup maths done..and we will be probably taking the half fare pass.now i have some doubts:
#1 do u i have stand in the queues to take tickets?are their separate queues for pass holders?
#2 how are the balance payment supposed to be made?in cash ?
#3 should we take point to point tickets only or should we take at the stations their only?
#4 for mountain peaks like jaungfraugh and titlis should we boon tickets in advance?
#What is a swiss tourist pass and what does it cover..our accimodations in interlaken and lucerne are providing us this pass..
Removed userParticipant72625 posts26 March 2019 at 10:40:05 #906825Hi Ruchi,
I see you’re getting along! 🙂 Wonderful
1. For most of the journeys you’re planning you can just buy the tickets at the ticketing machine or ticket counter of the station. You will normally not have to expect mayor queues and NO, there are no special lines for pass holders.
For the Golden Pass from Montreux towards Interlaken a seat reservation is recommended. See following link:
– http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass/ticketsAnd also for the Jungfraujoch it can be recommendable, but not mandatory:
– http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch2. Are you asking how you pay the reduced tickets at the counter or the machine? If this is your question then you can pay the tickets cash or in most cases also with your credit card. No issue there.
3.If you have the Swiss Half Fare Card you can look into the below options for day rail tickets
Saver Day Pass – http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass
Supersaver Ticket – http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland
1 day Travel Pass – http://www.myswissalps.com/on edaytravelpassor otherwise just buy normal, flexible point-to-point tickets.
Tickets – http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare4. I think advanced booking is not needed, however, should you feel better having your tickets booked, you will find purchase options for each destination by searching them in the search bar and then going to the “packages” tab.
5. To see about the mentioned tourist pass or visitor card, use below links:

Best,
