Hi, we are traveling to Switzerland October 10th – October 17th. I would like feedback/ advice on if everything I have planned is do-able for the time we are there. Also we have a unplanned day that we would like to see anything else nearby that is worth seeing. We will be staying 1 night in Zurich, 5 nights in Interlaken, and 1 night in Lucerne. We also have the Swiss Rail Pass and have most of the details worked out! Thanks in advance.

Day 1, Oct 10th – Land in Zurich, spend the day in Zurich visiting the city.

Day 2, – Travel to Interlaken hotel, visit the Aare Gorge and Reichenbach Falls

Day 3, – Visit Lake Blausse and Lake Oeshinensee and we also plan on doing the Schynige Platte and Harder Kulm Deck

Day 4, – Visit Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Gimmelwald, Grindelwald

Day5, – From Interlaken take the Golden Pass to Montreux, take a boat ride on Lake Geneva, and visit Geneva

Day 6, – Open Day. What are some worth day trips or areas of Switzerland worth seeing? We may plan to visit Zermatt on this day.

Day 7, – Head to Lucerne hotel, Visit Mt. Pilatus

Day 8, October 17th – Travel to Zurich Airport

    Hi fsuar!

Yes, most of your itinerary is doable. Some of your days are a bit too ambitious though, I’m afraid. Day 3 for example might need to be reconsidered. Blausee and Oeschinensee can be combined, but including Schynige Platte (http://www.myswissalps.com/sc hynigeplatte) and Harder Kulm on the same day would be too much to my taste. So I’d skip on of the items on your wish list. Day 5 too would be pretty long. Instead of Geneva (http://www.myswissalps.com/ge neva), you may want to limit yourself to Montreux (http://www.myswissalps.com/mo ntreux) or maybe Lausanne (http://www.myswissalps.com/la usanne), which would reduce traveling time. I assume you’d return to your hotel in Interlaken the same evening?

If day 6 too is spent in Interlaken, then please find tips for this day through http://www.myswissalps.com/be rneseoberland/activiti es. They’re all worthwile I think, and it’s a matter of personal preference which one(s) to pick :-).

You’d best consult the advanced SBB timetable for each trip to start planning in detail. This will also help you to find out whether the planned trips are doable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

Having just returned from 3 fabulous weeks, I wonder:

    • The Interlaken area is best known for its mountains–they don’t seem like a priority on your itinerary?
    • If you go to Jungfraujoch, for example (and I think you definitely should), that’s a good half day or more from Interlaken.
    • In Murren, you would go up to Schilthorn for wonderful views and the fun Birg thrill walk–also a half day from Interlaken.
    • The lakes and falls are nice, but the mountains will take your breath away.
    • Schynige Platte has fantastic views about 90 minutes hike toward First. But it’s also at least a half day outing.

Of course it depends on the weather as well as what you like!
