    Hi,

My name is firanylea from Malaysia. I’ll be travelling solo from 20th Nov til 28 Nov (during winter) currently me do not have any specific plan yet to explore Switzerland. Appreciate if you could give me any suggestion.

20th Nov- touch down Zurich airport at 10am heading to St Moritz. Is it possible for me to catch Bernina Express train? Or should me catch the BEX the next morning? Understand that, day time is shorther during winter.

21st Nov – from St Moritz, slowly catch train to lauterbrunnen. Enjoy 3 days at lauterbrunnen (first clift walk by Tissot at Grindelwald) Next day enjoy Harder Kulm. Any suggestion other than this activity during winter?

24th heading to Spiez. Stay for a night to enjoy day trip to zermat.

25th heading to Bern to enjoy city or should me escape this plan?

26th until 28 enjoy luzern. Enjoy golden pass train from lucern to interlaken. Next day enjoy trip to catch stoos and if possible go to mount pilatus.

i would be very thankful if anyone could suggest me how to plan and catch bernina express & other scenic train during winter. That is my wish list in this trip.

    thanks.

Hi firanylea and welcome to MySwissAlps!

At that time of year you won’t be able to catch a panoramic train to St. Moritz from Zurich or to Zermatt. But you can take the same route, just on the normal, regional trains.

Do note many mountains are closed for maintenance in November (you are in-between hiking and skiing seasons) so many restaurants, hotels etc will also be closed. Harder Kulm does operate until Nov. 25 though.

    Schilthorn is closed until Dec.7.

Jungfraujoch will be operating: https://www.myswissalp s.com/jungfraujoch

For ideas on what to do in Lauterbrunnen look here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/lauterbrunnen/ac tivities

I’d stay in Lucerne on the 25th rather than Bern. If you want to spend an afternoon in Bern you can make a day trip from Lucerne: https://www.myswissalp s.com/bern, https://www.myswissalp s.com/lucerne.

    >> 20th Nov- touch down Zurich airport at 10am heading to St Moritz. Is it possible for me to catch Bernina Express train? Or should me catch the BEX the next morning? Understand that, day time is shorther during winter.

The Bernina Express runs to a limited timetable at this time of year, and doesn’t run directly from St Moritz. You can get a normal train from St Moritz at 9:48, to connect with the Bernina Express at Pontresina at 10:24, arriving Tirano at 12:45. Reservations on the Bernina Express are compulsory, and cost CHF 10 at this time of year. You can return on a regional train from Tirano to St Moritz.

Daylight is from around 7:45 until 16:45 at that time of the year

    >> 21st Nov … first clift walk by Tissot at Grindelwald

The gondola to First is not operating between 29 Oct and 23 Nov 2018.

    >> 24th heading to Spiez. Stay for a night to enjoy day trip to zermat.

The Gornergrat train will be operating. The winter timetable downloadable from the following page indicates that the cableway to Klein Matterhorn/Glacier Paradise will be operating as well.

    http://www.matterhornparadise .ch/en/timetable

    >> 26th until 28 enjoy luzern … catch stoos and if possible go to mount pilatus.

The funicular to Stoos will not be operating between 19 Nov and 7 Dec 2018.

The cogwheel train from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm won’t be operating, but you can go up and back on the cableway from Kriens.

All modes of transport to the Rigi will be operating, as will the gondola to Titlis.

Boats on the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne) will be operating on a limited timetable.
