We are a family of 2 adults 2 children and 2 senior citizens travelling to switzerland this june 2018.

Below is a rough plan for our travel:

Day 1 – Land in zurich early morning – head to Montreaux by train/car

Day 2, 3 and 4- Around Montreux – lake Geneva- day trip to Gruyere- day trip to Zermatt if possible

Day 5 ,6,7 – Montreux- Bernese Oberland-possibly stay in Wengen or Muerren- Jungfrau

    Day 8 , 9, 10- Bernese oberland – Luzerne – Mt Pilatus/Mt Titlis – flower bridge etc

Day 11- Luzerne – Zurich airport train

    Few questions :

-Please suggest if the itenaray looks doable or we can change/add any destination

-Is it advisable to do a drive from zurich to montreux and keep the car till we are there and then leave it at Montreaux

-Which small town we could stay in Bernese oberland which gives us a village chalet style feel and has a good access to the mountain

-would like to do a cheese / chocolate factory visit in any of the places

-Are day trips to Gruyere and Zermatt possible from Montreux?

    thank you !

Hello resh1974 and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Any chance you could arrive Geneva instead of Zurich? It is just a bit over an hour from there to Montreux. Working your way from Montreux to Zurich would make sense.

Before you contemplate driving please read this http://www.myswissalps.com/ca rversustrain.

If you are still contemplating a car please read it again (I’m a big fan of trains 🤓).

Wengen is a good accessible location with an alpine feel and fabulous views.

Day trips from Montreux to Gruyères and Zermatt are doable. There is a cheese factory at Gruyères and a chocolate factory at nearby Broc Fabrique.

Use the Swiss Train Timetable (https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable) to plan your travel. If you haven’t used it before it will pay to read the instructions on that page before delving into the timetable.

You should also read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass).
