    Hi,

Me and my wife are planning to explore beautiful Swiss Alps in July’17. Our aim is to cover scenic train journeys, spectacular mountain tops.

Here is a rough itinerary –

    01-07-2017 Saturday Lucerne Local Sightseeing

02-07-2017 Sunday Lucerne Mt Titlis and local sightseeings

03-07-2017 Monday Lucerne Bern + Basel Day Tour

04-07-2017 Tuesday Lucerne Golden Lane Montreux (+ Lausanne) ?

05-07-2017 Wednesday Lucerne Jungfraujoch Day Tour

    06-07-2017 Thursday Zermatt Matterhorn

07-07-2017 Friday St. Moritz Glacier Express + Local St. Moritz

08-07-2017 Saturday St. Moritz Bernina Express (Return trip from Tirano)

09-07-2017 Sunday St. Moritz Last Train/Bus to Zurich

    10-07-2017 Monday 07.40 Flight

    Questions –

    1) Is this feasible? We are ready to travel but is this too much?

    2) We are missing Bernina Bus route, is it really that great?

    3) Night stay at Chur vs St. Moritz?

    4) Day trip to Zermatt from Lucerne suggested ?

    5) Any suggestion appreciated? We are totally flexible. 😀

Hi dhavalpgk, thanks for joining us!

    Let’s look into your questions:

1), 4), 5) It’s doable, but it does involve a lot of traveling. I recommend you use the timetable to check traveling times for each trip and see whether you’re fine with them. One change you could make to reduce traveling times is to stay in Interlaken rather than in Lucerne around July 5. The trip up to Jungfraujoch is much easier from Interlaken than from Lucerne. The same goes for a day trip to Zermatt. You may even spend the night in Zermatt on July 6 (not sure if you’ve planned on that, as you’re asking about a day trip to Zermatt from Lucerne) as you can easily catch the Glacier Express the next morning from Zermatt.

Also, I’d pick either Bern or Basel on July 3, not both. The Golden Pass ride all the way towards Montreux is pretty long, so I wouldn’t include Lausanne too if I were you. And note that the Lucerne region is splendid in itself. You may plan an extra day of sightseeing there, thus reducing traveling times, at the expense of Bern, Basel and/or the Golden Pass line.

    2) It’s a beautiful leg, but you just can’t do it all, so I wouldn’t worry about missing it.

    3) I’d prefer St. Moritz for its beautiful location, although you won’t have that much time for local sightseeing if you take the Bernina Express trip to Tirano. You may create some time in the afternoon of July 8 if you leave early in the morning. Also, you could stop in Poschiavo and take a train back to Pontresina/St. Moritz there, rather than traveling all the way to Tirano. That will save some time.

Thanks Annika for a prompt and helpful reply.

Rather than asking questions, I will just put the modified itinerary. 🙂

    01-07-2017 Saturday (Lucerne) Local Sightseeing

02-07-2017 Sunday (Lucerne) Mt Titlis and local Sightseeing.

03-07-2017 Monday (Lucerne->Interlaken GoldenPass) Local Sightseeing

04-07-2017 Tuesday (Interlaken) GoldenPass + Montreux Day Tour

05-07-2017 Wednesday (Interlaken) Jungfraujoch Day Tour

    06-07-2017 Thursday (Interlaken->Zermatt ) Matterhorn

07-07-2017 Friday (Zermatt->St. Moritz) Glacier Express + Local St. Moritz

08-07-2017 Saturday (St. Moritz) Bernina Express (Return trip from Tirano)

09-07-2017 Sunday (St. Moritz) Explore Town, Last Train/Bus to Zurich

    10-07-2017 Monday 07.40 Flight

I have skipped Bern + Basel + Lausanne so that it doesn’t become too hectic. So, 2 Nights Lucerne + 3 Nights Interlaken + 1 Night Zermatt + 2 Night St. Moritz.

    Any suggestions?

Also, are there any evening or night trains/buses to travel from St. Moritz to Zurich as staying at Zurich doesn’t make sense for a 7.40 flight.
