    Hi,

I am planning to travel to Zermatt and Lucerne this May with family. We plan to visit Alps glaciers. Our plan is given below:

May 17: Arrive Zurich and go to Zermatt

    May 18: Visit Materhorn

    May 19: Visit Gronergrat

May 20: Zermatt to Lucern and local sight seeing. We will stay in Lucern from may 20.

May 21: Visit interlaken via golden pass rail

May 22: Sight seeing in Zurich and back ot Lucern

May 23: To Zurich Airport for return flight

I would appreciate if you can advice on the itinerary. Can I see someother place / sightseeing while staying Lucern? Is trip to Interlaken worth it ?

Unfortunately there is no 6 day swiss rail pass. I plan to take 4 day pass. Is any other pass available for next two days ? Please advice on choosing the right pass.

    Thanks and Regards

    Koushik

    Hello koushik,

You can’t actually visit the Matterhorn. You can visit one or both of Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn (Matterhorn Glacier Paradise) are trips from Zermatt that get you different views of the Matterhorn.

Depending on what time your flight leaves on 23 May you would be better staying in Lucerne from 20 May. It is only 1 hour from Lucerne to Zurich Airport. There is lots to do in and around Lucerne. See http://www.myswissalps.com/la kelucerne/activities.

A day trip from Lucerne to Zurich would be a waste on 22 May.

If you stay in Lucerne the Tell Pass is well worth considering – almost all transport and mountain and lake attractions are free. See http://www.myswissalps.com/te llpass

For Zurich to Zermatt and Zermatt to Lucerne the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/on edaytravelpass/details) may be your best bet. You could stop off at Interlaken on your way to Lucerne and maybe even take a train up to Wengen for a quick look around.

You should really work your way through “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass) to be sure which pass is best for you.
