    Hi there

We are a family of three from Australia – 2 adults and a 7 year old, travelling to Switzerland for 10 days in September/October.

We will fly in to Zurich, have two nights in Lucerne, 5 nights in Wengen and 2 nights in Gstaad.

I am thinking of purchasing the 10 day Bernese Oberland Regional Pass but know that won’t include the forward journey from Zurich to Lucerne and the final route from Gstaad to Geneva where our flight departs. I am assuming that Gstaad is included in the BORP but haven’t checked yet.

To confuse things, our hotel in Wengen has offered a five day Jungfrau pass as part of our stay. We can decline this offer and receive a discount on our stay.

We don’t have any major plans in any of the destinations but will most definitely use all modes of transport and would like to take in key sites such as Schilthorn or Jungfrau and the Golden Pass (excuse any typos here).

I would appreciate any advice on what would work best. Any opinions on Lucerne accommodation would be great too – is Sarnen or Giswil too far out as a base for example.

    Many thanks

    Nerida

Wow you get the jungfrau pass for free I never knew hotels did that. Saves you over £150pp. I’m jealous as I am forking out a lot for the pass

Hi Nerida and welcome to MySwissAlps!

To help you with the decisions be sure to read about those passes you mention in more detail (prices, areas of validity, etc.) on the following links:

Click the where it’s valid tab for each pass to see a PDF map of routes/towns that are covered.

Also, use our web page on how to choose the best rail pass – there is an Excel document that will help you do the math to compare passes. With a free Jungfrau Travel Pass it might make the most sense to go that way – but you can’t know for sure until you do the math on all your planned trips.

I don’t think there is a suggestion the pass is free. More like bundled into room rate?

Thanks all – I have done the maths and it is cheaper for us to go with the Swiss Half Card and Bernese Overland Pass – just!

Yes, a number of the hotels in Wengen offer summer packages with Jungfrau pass included but you are still paying for it. As we are visiting a wider region we thought the BORP was better value.

    Thanks again to all
