    Hi,

We are planning a trip from Geneva to Zermatt by train on 22/10, returning to Geneva on 27/10. There will be 2 parents, 2 grandparents and 2 young children (age 3 and 4). We will visit Gornergrat and take cable cars.

Is the Swiss travel pass and Swiss family card the cheapest option for our travel?

And if one of us buys the pass, will the grandparents also enjoy reduced fares on trains, cable cars and Gornergrat?

    Many thanks

    Simone

Hi Simone and welcome to MySwissAlps!

All adults would need to buy their own Swiss Travel Pass. You won’t need to get the Swiss Family Card though, it only covers 6 to 15 year old children. All children under 6 years old are free on Swiss trains and don’t need a ticket.

    Thank you very much Lucas.

Since we are only travelling from Geneva to Zermatt and back, it may not be cost effective to buy the Swiss travel Pass for all of us, and full price train ticket and cable car ticket will turn out cheaper …

    Yes, that could be true.

To be sure you can do the math on all your planned trips with point to point tickets and compare that to the cost of the Swiss Travel Pass.

You may also want to look at buying the Swiss Half Fare Card instead. It gets you 50% off all trains, boats, cable cars etc.
