    What is the best way to get from Basel to Mount Pilatus and back for a day trip?

    By train to Lucerne then bus to Kriens. Use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel.

    See also http://www.myswissalps.com/pi latus/gettingthere. The cogwheel railway to Alpnachstad does not re-open until into May.

    If you are returning to Basel you could go one way direct to Lucerne and return via Interlaken and Bern.
