Keen to do Basel to Stein am Rhein and Rhinefalls day trip tomorrow.

Could we ask for transport-rail or otherwise advice and how much time at each location.

    Hi Bumm,

You can find the train schedules using the Swiss railways timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

You can find details on how to get to the Rheinfalls here: http://www.myswissalps.com/rhinefalls/gettingthere. You can enter Stein am Rhein on the timetable to find trains there as well.

I would plan for maybe 2-3 hours at each location.

You can catch a train from any train station you want – the timetable will show you where you need to connect. So if Basel main station is best for you to start the train trip, enter that into the timetable as your departure point. It will tell you what train to catch and what stations you need to switch to other trains.

They told you to go to the German station in Basel to catch the train? or?

We were at Basel SBB TI and the lady told us to go to the German station to enquire as she did not sell train tickets…it was odd.

    That is odd.

You’re attachment looks good – no reason for the timetable to be incorrect. 🙂

    Hi Bumm,

I got your email today. Thanks for the kind words and we look forward to your trip report! http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/tripreports

I’m curious what you meant when you said “We are truly disappointed with the Basel TI and Basel SBB CSOs,save for one lady on our last day.”?

    Hi Lucas,

We arrived in Basel after a long journey from our home country on 12 September.

We were keen to visit Colmar the next day. When we approached the TI,we were directed to the French side of the station. The next day, when enquiring about Freiburg,we were told to get tickets from the SBB office next door. After a long queue at the SBB office, the lady said it would be better to start our journey from the German station. We decided to purchase her ‘more expensive ‘ tickets.

We asked about the Basel to Rheinfelden/Schaffhausen trip at the SBB Office on 15 September and were given the ‘go to the German station’answer.

I chanced it but asking it on this forum on a Sunday morning and you replied!

We had an awesome 15 days in Switzerland and met some really nice and helpful people. You guys are tops!

Ah I see. TI = Tourist information?

I can see there being a cost difference in buying tickets within France or Germany (Euro countries are much cheaper) but I wouldn’t go to the trouble usually.

Glad to hear everything else went smoothly! 🙂

    Hi Lucas,

    Yup.

TI=Tourist information CSO =customer service officer.

There were just a whole lot of tourists outside the TI and SBB office lost and frustrated-not a happy sight!
