Hello, we are travelling with family for 9 nights in Dec, taking in the Christmas period. Staying in Wengen. Can somebody tell us of the benefits of the Jungfrau hiking and sledging pass over the Swiss travel pass? We thought a regional pass would offer particular benefits to that area, but from what I’ve read that doesn’t seem to be the case, am I correct in that thought ? Thanks for any help, I am finding all the options a bit confusing, but know for sure we will only have time to visit the Bernese Oberland region on this trip. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hello Swisscheese and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

It really all depends on your personal plans.

Have you read http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauhikingsledgingpa ss and compared the validity map you will find there with that of the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity).

You will need tickets to get you to and from the Bernese Oberland.

Another one to look at is the http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and.

    Hi swisscheese,

If you are staying in Wengen for the entire trip the Jungfrau Hiking and Travel Pass is a great option. The Regional Pass Bernese Oberland is not available after October 31.

    >> 9 nights in Dec, taking in the Christmas period. Staying in Wengen

Have you already booked your accommodation?

    No, you’re not 🙂

    • Trains between Interlaken Ost, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Mürren
    • Trains Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg and Eigergletscher
    • Gondola Grindelwald Grund to Männlichen
    • Cable car Wengen to Männlichen
    • Gondola Grindelwald to First
    • Bus Grindelwald to Bussalp until 16.00
    • Funicular Mürren to Allmendhubel
    • Bus and cable car Lauterbrunnen-Stechelberg-Mürren
    • Cable car and train Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp-Mürren
    • Chairlift Arven
    • Chairlift Innerwengen
    • Chairlift Schiltgrat

If you get a Hiking and Sledging Pass for at least 3 days, you also get 50% discount on tickets between:

    • Mürren-Schilthorn
    • Eigergletscher-Jungfraujoch

I have attached a map that shows the coverage of the Hiking and Sledging Pass.

I would expect the coverage to be the same for 2018-19, but you would need to check closer to the end of the year, just in case they make some changes.

Thank you for your replies. Alpenrose I really appreciated your dot points which tells me it is better value. One last question I forgot to ask, do children travel free on this pass with their parents as for the Swiss pass ? as we have some children between 5 and 15 years in our group. Thanks again for all your help. Yes, we have already booked Wengen for accommodation. Best wishes to you all.

Children’s prices are shown here http://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfrau-ski-region/jungfrau-region-hiking-and-sledging-pass/ (for this winter). That might alter the value equation depending on how many kids you have.
