I am so spending 5 days in Switzerland in June and plan to purchase the Bernese Oberland pass for the final 4 days of my trip. I booked a rental car and am scheduled to pick it up in Bern on a Sunday after 5. I have read that most of the town is closed on Sundays. My question is should I spend the day traveling with the pass or should I spend the day in Bern? Is there enough to do on a Sunday in Bern?

Hi Kames63,

That’s a nice trip you are planning. Yes Switzerland can be quite sleepy on Sundays, and visiting Bern depends very much on your interests. If you are more into mountains and scenery then perhaps not, but if you are into culture and sightseeing then it may be worthwhile as the city is very nice and there is some very interesting architecture so a walking tour is always nice.

There are certainly nice things to see between Bern and the Jungfrau region, for another option.

Hi Kames63 – In many but not all parts of the Bernese Oberland a car is not permitted.

It could remain in a garage, wishing that it could be outside, looking at the sights.

Have you considered train travel?
