My son and I will be arriving, overnight from Canada, in Zurich the morning of 11 June, departing Geneva mid day 22 June. We have already booked 2 nights in Zurich, followed by 2 nights in Lucerne.

Is it sensible to do the Gothard Panorama to Lugano on day 5, Bernina Express to Chur on day 6, Glacier Express to Zermatt on day 7, Zermatt to Montreux on day 8, tour around Montreux on day 9, tour around Lausanne with travel to Geneva on day 10, sightsee in Geneva on day 11?

I have also booked 2 final nights in Geneva.Only the nights in Zurich are non refundable. My grandmother was born in Vevey , so I would like to explore that area. I am having trouble planning an efficient use of the middle portion of our stay.

Should I try to include the Jungfraujoch? We enjoy architecture, strolling through towns, good food, and not so much hiking or museums. We prefer to have busy days and early nights.

I have already purchased 15 day Swiss Rail Passes and realise I will need to reserve seats for the panoramic trains. Any suggestions are appreciated! This trip is very last minute and I am starting to feel desperate.

Hi arenamama and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

You will certainly cover some territory with that itinerary.

It looks fine if you enjoy scenic train rides and don't mind switching hotels so regularly.

From Zurich you can reach the Schilthorn for free with a Swiss Travel Pass. It will take you about 3½ hours one way and you'll get a great view of the Jungfrau from up there.

From Lauterbrunnen a very nice circuit to do is to Grütschalp (cable car), Mürren (train), Schiltorn (cable car), Mürren (cable car), Gimmelwald (cable car), Stechelberg (cable car), Lauterbrunnen (bus). In between Stechelberg and Lauterbrunnen the bus stops at the Trummelbach Falls. Well worth a look if you have the time. You may also want to read this thread rum/topic/new-schilthorn-cable-car-reservation-process.

Use the SBB Timetable ( metable) to work out timings.

It is a lot of moving around but that can work out ok too.

I might not try to fit in both the Bernina Express and Glacier Express trains. Slow it all down. :) Lugano is worth 2 nights (especially for the food and exploring nearby towns). Read about my trip there a couple months ago here.

You could then train to Andermatt and take part of the Glacier Express to Zermatt, then on to Montreux and Vevey and then Geneva.

Lucerne might be enough for big mountains and hiking if that isn't your thing - save the Jungfrau region for another trip! :)

Vevey has a lovely waterfront promenade with lake and mountain views. There is also a beautiful historic carousel on the waterfront. The picturesque "old town" area (Rue du Lac) is close to the waterfront too.

The Train des Vignes runs through the vineyards from Vevey to Puidoux-Chexbres. You can continue from Puidoux-Chexbres to Lausanne along an equally beautiful route (about 15 minutes).

If you are interested in seeing photos of these trips, you can see them attached to my post of May 19, 2017 - 4:32 AM on the following page: rum/topic/1-day-lausanne-and-vevey

Mountain trips from Vevey include:

Les Pléiades (train from Vevey) oldenpass/offer/view?id=85

Funicular railway Vevey-Mont-Pèlerin ss/offer/view?id=10
