    Hi prachi,

Are you planning to return to Luzern the same day?

The Bernina Express is on the other side of Switzerland from Luzern. Travel time would be a bit over 6.5 hours each way. The Bernina Express leaves Chur at 8:32. To catch it, you would need to leave Luzern at 6:10. This option is not so suitable as a day trip from Luzern.

For ideas on how to do a day trip on the Glacier Express from Luzern, please see the section Don’t have time to do the full route? on the following page:

You can plan your trip using the Swiss Timetable:

    Hi prachi,

I liked the Bernina better than the Glacier. But the best one to do is the one you can fit in the time you have available.

Rhaetian Railways have just advertised a new one day round trip from Zurich see http://www.rhb.ch/en/tickets-travelcards/promotions /gotthard-bernina-rundreise

Seeing you are going from Luzern you may be able to join the Zurich to Lugano leg at Arth-Goldhau which might save a bit of time. But you would still be up for a very long day of travelling.

From Luzern you might consider the Gotthard Panorama Express (see http://www.myswissalps.com/go tthardpanoramaexpress) which combines boat and train. You can go one way on the GPEX route and return same day via the express train via the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
