hello. We are planning to take the Bernina Express from Tirano, Italy to St. Moritz. I hear some windows open and some do not. If anyone can assist me with this, I would be more than grateful. Should we book first class or economy? Which windows open? which side is best to sit on?

Hi tapc116! The panoramic Bernina Express train has large windows, but they don't open. Windows of some regular regional trains (covering the same route) do open. However, new regional trains have been introduced here recently, and I'm not sure how their windows function.

Both 1st and 2nd class are comfortable. 1st class offers a bit more space and even larger windows. You could consider 1st class if you plan to travel in July or August; these generally are the peak tourist season, and 2nd class may be crowded then.

I think you should sit on the left side facing the engine when leaving from Tirano.
