Hello,

I am wondering if it will be dark at all along the Bernina Express route on March 24th? To decide if we should do the whole route in 1 day, or stop in Pontresina area for the night and do the rest of the route the next day, in order to see all of the views in daylight. It looks like the sunset in Chur will be around 6:30pm.

thank you!

Hi akthede,

According to a check on the internet, sunset in Chur is at 18:39 on March 24. The Bernina Express train arrives at 18:20 - use the Swiss railways timetable here to see your options.

So you should be getting most of the trip in good daylight.

Thank you!

I think we are planning to do the complete trip, all the way from Florence, to Tirano, then the Bernina Express to Chur on March 24th (it will be a very long day of riding trains but so beautiful!). Then I just learned about Bad Ragaz and it's thermal springs. We may then continue onto Bad Ragaz from Chur that same evening to stay there. Then continue on Sunday the 25th from Bad Ragaz to Zurich and onto Paris. Given the winter schedules and that the 25th is a Sunday, will this all be possible?

thank you so much for all of your help!

Hi akthede,

That should be possible providing you are OK with an 11 hour journey on 24th. Use the timetable link that Lucas provided to check the timings within Switzerland. From Florence to Tirano you’ll be best checking the Italian train timetable.

Thank you! I wanted to check with an expert, as the timetables for that exact day are not available yet? or maybe that is just ticket purchase, but it seems I cannot see that exact day yet.

I know it's a long journey but I assume the trains are comfortable and it will be so scenic!

oh this is most helpful! So I should plan to purchase the tickets exactly 90 days before? (Which will fall on Christmas eve!)

thank you!

You only need to make a reservation on the Bernini Express initially (90 days out). Once you have that you can buy tickets closer to or on your travel day. Italian trains and train Zurich to Paris will require reservations also but I don’t know much about them.

Yes I would recommend making reservations on international trains (Zurich to Paris can be made here).
Within Italy I am not so sure - often it is included in the ticket but not always.
