    Hi,

I have just reserved and paid for 2 seats on Bernina Express via Rhaetian Railway website. When I did my reservation, seat 45 and 47 were shown under coach 2.

However, when I received the confirmation via email, it waw stated as Carriage no. 3, 2. Class, Seats 45, 47. Does this carriage 3 mean coach 3? If yes, why during reservation, these seats were shown under coach 2?

    Thank you

    Hi Jenn Chuah,

I’m not sure if Carriage 3 means Coach 2. Perhaps it’s best to contact the Rhaetian Railway directly and ask for a clarification.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thank you, Anna.

I am taking the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano on 7 December.

And then from Tirano to St Moritz on the same day where I will spend a night. There is a SBB train that I can take from Tirano to St Moritz that runs on an hourly basis, is that correct? Does this train depart from the same station as the Bernina Express in Tirano?

    Thank you.

Yes there are hourly trains St – Moritz – Tirano – St Moritz but they are not SBB.

The whole railway network in south east Switzerland is the Rhatische Bahn, a large network of metre gauge railways. It is separate from Swiss Federal Railways, the Swiss main line rail network.

The Rhatische Bahn consists of several routes – see map link

The route in bright red on the map is the Chur – St Moritz (Unesco world Heritage ALBULA railway ) and St Moritz – Tirano Unesco World heritage BERNINA RAILWAY

On the Chur – Tirano Bernina Express your train will run on both lines. When you come back on a normal train from Tirano to St Moritz you will be coming back north on the Bernina railway

    Hi Jenn Chuah,

There is limited Bernina Express service in wintertime. Based on the timetable, on 7th Dec there is a Bernina Express train from Chur to Tirano at 8.32am, reaching Tirano at roughly 12pm. On the same day, the only Bernina Express direct service from Tirano to St Moritz leaves at roughly 10am so you won’t be able to take that. However you can take the 14.02 Bernina Express from Tirano to Chur, stopping in Pontresina, then take a local bus to St Moritz (see “Regular trains versus Bernina Express” at http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress). You can also take local trains from Tirano to St Moritz. You can check the train schedules on the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thank you, 1960man and Anna.

    Sorry, I am still confused.

Please refer to the attachment and advise whether I can take this train. Can I use Swiss Travel Pass Flex on this train?

    Thank you.

Anybody can get on any train on the Bernina Railway. The 15.00 Tirano – St Moritz is a regional train. Until late December it does not have so called ‘panorama’ carriages but you still see the same views from the big windows of normal carriages.

    Hi Jenn Chuah,

in case you are traveling on a normal train, you can use your Swiss Travel Pass Flex (here is how to use it: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/howtouse). If you want to travel by the Bernina Express, you can still use your Swiss Travel Pass Flex, but you have to reserve your seats in advance for an extra fee: http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress/tickets.

At http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress you can read more about the differences between the normal and panoramic train under the title ‘Regular trains versus Bernina Express’.

I hope this helps to understand it better,

    Ildiko

PS.: here is the validity map of your Swiss Travel Pass Flex: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/validity.
