Hi Forum,

We are a family of 2 adults and 1 young adult taking our first trip to the Swiss Alps traveling the last week of Feb 2020 and coming from Milan. We are traveling from the US to and from Milan so we need to return to Milan at the end of the week.

We are planning to spend 3-4 days in the Swiss Alps max. We want to take the Bernina Express Train and Glacier Train. Where should we overnight? St. Moritz is pretty price even for one night. is there any nearby cities where we can stay for less? We have read about Chur, Lucerne as great cities to visit too. Can you please provide options based on our limited time?

We are also planning to do Lake Como, Bergamo and Florence in Italy. Should we do this before or after Swiss Alps. Any recommendations would be great.

Hello Bomer and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

With 3 – 4 day in the Alps and the train journeys you have indicated you want to do I would go from Milan to Zermatt for a couple of nights.

From Zermatt take the Glacier Express to Chur and stay overnight there. From Chur take the Bernina Express to Tirano and possibly the BEX bus on to Lugano. It only starts operation on 20 May and runs only Thursday to Sunday in February.

Como is quite close to Lugano and Varenna (on the eastern side of Como) is close to Tirano.

From Varenna you can go to Bergamo and from there to Florence but that would be via Milan so whether you do that before or after Switzerland is not really relevant.
